Here with family in Naples this weekend. We drove over to Marco Island to see Crystal Shores, since we've never been there. We heard so many good things about it, but when we left we were so disappointed. The grounds seemed so small. It felt like a hotel atmosphere to us, with all the high rises. It didn't help that all the construction on the new building was going on. We then went over to the Marriott hotel nearby. It was beautiful and much more like a resort atmosphere. The Concierge informed us it is turning into a JW Marriott soon, which will mean an increase in rates/points. Tomorrow we are moving to the Marriott resort at Sanibel for 5 nights. I'm sure President's week will bring all the families out. Will be nice to see Sanibel/Captiva and catch up with some old college friends.

Crystal shores is a little unique. We did enjoy our time there but it isn't your normal Marriott Vacation Club property. Keep in mind that the current structure is a converted Radisson hotel that Marriott Vacation Club bought back in 2006 for $58 million. The current footprint is small, but I think the completion of the project will make it feel much more like the MVCI properties we are used to. If you do get a chance to stay in the unit, they are pretty great and the balconies are phenomenal, second only to Kalanipu'u IMO.

Have a great time in Sanibel. Do tell how you like the Marriott property there. We have visited Sanibel many times and love to go shelling. I don't think the Marriott property is actually on the island though.
