We can not use our certificate by the expiration date but could use it if it could be extended by one month. Is there any chance that the certificate could be extended? I have heard of people booking with the certificate, canceling and then the certificate was automatically extended.
Do we call Bonvoy to ask or does anyone have a better number?
Thanks for any help!

I have extended my Marriott certificates a couple of years ago. But something changed, and the reps are doing a hard line no more extensions when I have tried this past year. It was use it or lose it by the expiration date.

Try calling and see if you can get someone to extend it a month. Nothing to lose but a few minutes of tour time if they say no.

If you have a specific date and hotel that you want to stay at, they may be willing to do an extension and attach to that reservation. Otherwise, it has been a hard no if you just want an extension.

I tried appealing and they were a hard "no" after calling several times and even reaching a supervisor.

We used it for a staycation in SF. Not perfect but better than losing 100%. We didn't try attaching it an upcoming res after the date of expiration. So worth a try.

On a related note, I don't recall if we are permitted to giving them to others. Can we use a free cert to book a room for someone else?

very unlikely. There was way too much abuse of this and they took the ability to extend them away from the CSRs. Its use it or lose it- I mean you do get an entire year.
