do you have a google account? I had inadvertently stored a card on my google account...they always ask I say no but somehow must have said yes one time. Anyways my google account got hacked and very strange charges showed up suddenly. Based on some of the purchases I believe it originated in Germany...$400 worth of cigars, loot crate, and others....they were all being shipped to my house.

I was able to stop all except a purchase for cell phone time. They also had access to my email, I would change the password and then they would change it to something else. I finally changed the reset email recovery to my centurylink instead of gmail and that stopped the shenanigans.

I think some kid was doing it for fun.... I also made sure I have nothing stored in my google account....I will enter my cc anytime I want to purchase something.

My Credit Bureau Accounts are frozen, I use only one Credit Card and check its activity every morning. Despite this I have had 2 or 3 instances of fraud with my card during the last 5 years or so. My take is that in today's world we have to learn to live with and manage this...

As I posted before, last week I got a new card because Fraud was on my prior. I don’t even have it a week and I have a problem again.

Right after last weeks incident I put alerts for every transaction on my credit card as well as my checking/savings accounts. Just a little while ago an alert happened, I have an Uber charge, not mine. Called the credit card company and they cancelled this new card and are issuing another.

Sorry, I have not read all the posts on your other thread about this problem, but IMHO I would think it is your credit card company that is having an issue. I am not enough of a techy to say what it can be, but if you have a pin or password for this CC perhaps you need to make that password more difficult to figure out.
I am sorry to read of your problem, doesn’t make sense does it.

Credit card numbers are all very unique and not reused so it’s strange when you had unauthorized use on a new account number.

This did happen awhile back with a bank in the UK. Clydesdale Bank reissued mastercard PANs, but eventually stopped after obvious problems occurred. "PAN" is an acronym for primary account number, the long number on either a debit or a credit card.

Banks don't normally reissue cards with the same PAN numbers however, there is one exception to this. If a bank or card issuer is bought by another bank
or card issuer then a card number can be reissued under the new name of the bank or card issuing organisation. So while not probable, it is possible.

We have a credit card with a $500. credit limit just for use when travelling. It is not tied to any of our other cards or bank accounts and we get email alerts when it is used. We used it for gas a few times while driving through Mexico in case our main card got compromised leaving us without a credit card for the next 3 mos. We still carry our main cards but use the small limit one when we feel security may be a problem like at small independent gas stations. We also now have RFD blocker sleeves for our credit cards. DH bought them for us and my dad after dad's card was read through his wallet while in line at a major chain store in Barrie ON. It was then used for online purchases before he drove the 15 minutes to his home.

When you used your new card at the doctors office, did you personally swipe the card or did you hand it to a billing clerk? ID theft is very prevalent at medical offices.

I have one CC that we only use for about 10 automatic monthly charges (utilities & such).
That card stays home, in a safe, and not used otherwise. So, it's less likely to be hacked.
... Having to change CC #'s with a bunch of auto-pay merchants became a real hassle.

Of two other cards, one had to be closed + reissued twice last year.

I would start looking at where I was spending the last week or so on the old card number and where you used the new card. That intersection will probably expose the thief.

I did a stupid thing last night. In search for N95 masks, I inadvertently ordered from a thieving website. After I put in my credit card number, it said the cc was declined and to use another one. I submitted another 3 times with the same cc and it still said it was declined. I got suspicious and went to check whois, and it showed Panama. I immediately went into my credit card account and cancelled the card and asked to re-issue a different one. Nothing got charged to my credit card. I believe the website was set up to capture credit card information for resale in the black market. I am glad I followed through on cancelling my card. I dodged one there... all because I was not careful in the first place.

I am glad you caught it. If the ordered looked like it processed you might not have caught it. The masks are basically out of stock at legit sellers. With the fear of the coronavirus these fake sites are pulling customers in.

Just an FYI; Plenty of N95 Masks on eBay. Assuming you have PayPal then you shouldn't have an issue there......

Glad you cancelled your CC to cover yourself,

Thanks. Some of the eBay sellers look a little shady and others are holding buyers ransom with the prices. We got ourselves some N95 half face mask. Not optimum but I will keep looking.
