Anyone have any idea why rental cars are so expensive for Tampa in late Aug? rates are over $300 for a small car for Aug 23 to 31st! I have an extra day in my trip but the prices are still out of wack for 1 week, Anyone know if anything is going on around this time? Same thing for Orlando.

I was shocked at the prices for my usual cars from Dollar or Avis for October. So for the first time in over 7 years I am going off terminal to Thrifty for my car (although I really hate the waste of time for the shuttle out & back) but the savings are worth it for this trip.

On the other hand my December trip came with car rates that fell about the same as average still using Dollar. I don't know why October is so far out of line.

Wow, that's crazy high. You used to get a small car in Orlando for $69 a week (many years ago!!). :D

We had the same situation for a recent trip and decided to wait for the last minute. National released great last minute specials. The cost went from $300per week to $139 with taxes and fees. We also used Emerald Aisle which allows you to reserve an intermediate car then bypass the line and go right to the parking lot and pick whatever is available, intermediate and better.
Good Luck
