I own 2 weeks at the Craigendarroch Lodges and received the below email from HGVC this morning. I haven't followed up, see nothing regarding it on the website (though the email and linked guide seem to indicate enrollment and exchange can be done online). I'm curious as to whether this is a backdoor into MAX inventory if MAX is really a DEX overlay (and/or whether it has any impact on my ability to elect HGVC points), but that's about where my curiosity ends.

I received the same email. It looks a lot like what SFX offers, i.e. bonus week, but you are right, it could be an interesting way to access DRI/HVC properties without joining Max. It is interesting they must be targeting non-HGV Craig owners because, otherwise, HGV Craig owners would already be exchanging in HGVC. It sort of creates a competition with HGV between the HGV exchange and the DEX exchange but gives Craig owners a nice option. I wonder if Dunkeld and Coy owners received the same?

I'm curious as to whether this is a backdoor into MAX inventory if MAX is really a DEX overlay

It should get you into "MAX" properties + all RCI inventory (for now under the current iteration of the exchange). However, it should be a separate and much larger pool than MAX inventory.

Exchange fees (more affordable than RCI) and less flexibility to book short stays will be involved.

I am curious to know more. How much does a membership cost? What properties can be deposited? I am hopeful this is the beginning of a broad rollout. To some extent they are competing with themselves and MAX, BUT if they are not doing it they are turning their back on trying to compete with RCI/Wyndham down the road.

I think they are really targeting non-HGV Craig owners. I don't know the percentage of owners that have joined HGV but probably pretty high. You can already exchange Craig in II and SFX, so they are probably trying to make DEX more competitive with them

Did you have a separate email for Coy? I wonder if Dunkeld owners received one?

Wonder if in rolling this out they may have decided Craig Lodges is distinct and distant enough from everything else that it is a good place to have a control demo before a broader launch? (Note: It is also a location where they could roll it out and 100% not be competing with MAX sales.)

No (at least not yet), but I really don't think that they have a way to email Coy owners. That would really need to come from the HOA now. I also really don't understand how HGV could include Coy in DeX since they dropped them from HGVC. Maybe they are planning to let the current owners stay with HGVC.

I don't think the understanding is that HGV Max is just an overlay of DEX, but rather part of The Club, or THE Club, or however they capitalize that thing. Anyway, it would seem that this is a way to pull revenue away from II and/or RCI and keep it within HGV.

Or, the Craig HOA negotiated it for more European or non-US options for their owners who don't join HGVC. That has been a complaint from European owners in HGVC... Very limited options other than going to the US.

Another thing that I just realized is that this would actually give Craig owners more access to DRI than HGVClub with HGV Max owners have....I think. I think HGVClub owners only have access to the properties deemed as Max properties and up to HGVC standards versus all the properties in DRI.

I have thought for a long time that I would WAY rather have access to DEX than MAX. DEX could become a real exchange (much more of a standalone than it is now with its behind the portal marriage with RCI). MAX is a bunch of fluff to use in a sales meeting.

It would be interesting to know where the developer owned weeks are being deposited, if they are going in DEX then there might be some good choices for exchanges and using the bonus weeks.

In the past I have stayed in HVC DRI resorts by booking through GPX and Interval, mostly using cash bonus weeks. I've stayed in Sedona and Maui.

Options could be limited if it's just owner deposits for exchanges.

I just rented a Cabo Azul week through AFVC for $319.

I am going to deposit a week and see what happens. It will be interesting to see how it works and how it pulls back out of HGVC.

HGV keeps getting better. My MVC keeps getting worse. #justsaying

Love this announcement because I was going to deposit a week to II but now will try DEX first.

Man, I wish I had the funds to buy a Craig and had done that for my II membership and now this. I personally think HGV needs to roll out DeX as a separate exchange service to compete with RCI / II now that those are owned by their direct competitors. It seems like if they make DeX free to all HGV that would let them start to consider dropping RCI, or a sales pitch supplement to HGV like Wyndham has their vacasa thing they now promote too...

Is there an annual cost for II with Craig?

I just looked through the resorts in the guide and these HGVC properties are all listed so maybe owners from each of them can exchange DEX: Craig Lodges, Coylumbridge, Club Regency of Marco Island, Plantation Beach Club,

I got the same email. I'm intrigued. One downside - it implies that it's only a week-for-week exchange - no 3, 4, 5 day reservations. True?

Still, for free, it seems a good deal. Has anyone contacted them via the email and/or phone contacts, and gotten more information. If so, please share what you've learned. Thanks.
