Craigendarroch Lodges and DEX

Trying to understand more on how to use Craigendarroch Lodges
I am a new CL owner as of the beginning of this year. New to HGVC as well. I have converted some weeks to HGVC points and booked reservations. Have also deposited other weeks into the DEX EU exchange and already made a reservation for December 2027 with one of those weeks (Tier 6).

All the plat weeks tend to be between 0.09 and 0.11 with the 1 bed plat the worst but I feel, it gives you the most flexibility and a much lower purchase price. Plus, you can compare the cost of exchanging a tier 6 with a tier 6 and a tier 4 with a tier 6 and they aren't much different when you calculate in the MFs and upgrade fee
I found the MF to point ratio spreadsheet for 2026 in a sticky. Will reach out to HGV resales to see what the difference in cost is :)

@thelee
Also, buying CL weeks directly from the HGV resale office qualifies for "Elite" status on the HGVC points system if you are interested in that many points and the perks associated with Elite tiers.
I haven't looked into the Elite tiers but this'll be my first foray into the HGVC system (other than the original TS I brought retail and rescinded 😅)

You can get an idea from that link in the other post. There is a sales page there but it is probably out of date so Kyrstie can give you an updated list

I think that Elite tier levels are a wonderful option to this purchase. In addition, some members are also getting Max. That isn't supposed to happen. If you do want to purchase, I would recommend purchasing a 2BR CL platinum season in DEX tier 6.

Deposit fees? Seems DEX has differences I wasn't expecting for other HGV groups of resorts!
For general members, the tier upgrade fees are more favorable with DEx EU and US than Embarc based on the guides that I found.
Does anyone have the DEx US 2025 fees for better comparison in cases the fees changed

For DEX EU, no enrollment or deposit fee, unless it is a late deposit. With on time deposits, the only fee is the exchange fee plus an upgrade fee if you exchange for a higher tier

It is interesting to see the differences in the DEXs. DEX EU doesn't have different exchange fees, does Xtras differently with no restrictions, but charges for guest certs

Important to note that the upgrade fee is "per tier". Some members going from a tier 4 deposit to tier 6 discovered this to their dismay. One advantage of using a point system in Dex is that you don't have to deposit. You can book whatever you select directly with the correct number of points. That also applies inversely when booking a tier lower than a deposit - you don't lose the point difference, you just book using that amount.
How does a fixed week work?

With a fixed week, you deposit a week and exchange for a week. The downside is that it is only a weekly option. We can use Xtras to use cash and any number is nights but for exchanging it is a week for a week.

This is why I like a 1 bed plat week during peak season.... It is a tier 4. If I need a tier 6, then I can pay the upgrade fee but otherwise I don't. I wouldn't want to exchange a tier 6 for a tier 4... Then you are over paying.

Plus, the math isn't that different for when you might want a tier 6. See the example below:

A 2 bed plat MFs this year were £941.73. To use it for a Tier 6 exchange, you would then just pay the exchange fee of £171 so the total price is: £941.73 + £171 = £1,112.73

A 1 bed plat MFs is £703.59 but to exchange a Tier 4 for a Tier 6, you need to pay an upgrade fee of £360 so the total price would be £703.59 + £171 + £360 = £1,234.59.

It is in pounds since DEX EU is in the UK

This would be nice. Gives you more flexibility without committing yourself. We have to decide to keep the fixed week in HGVC , cancel the reservation for points, or deposit it into DEX EU....or II

Correct, you can decide whenever you see something of interest, to book whatever you want without using too many points or having to pay an upgrade fee.
