If I am a Weeks-only member of RCI, can I convert my Weeks within the RCI environment to Points? I have been pitched by my timeshare several times to switch my Weeks to Points, but they want about $5k to do it and I'm not entirely convinced that I will come out on top. The reason I want to occasionally have points is when I want to take a 3 or 4 night trip, which I cannot do with a Weeks account without booking a whole week that overlaps the days I want.

If you own at a resort that is now selling RCI points weeks the only way to convert is to do it through your developer/HOA at the price the are charging. Your other option is to buy a resale already converted week. This could be at your resort or another points resort. If you want both points and weeks you could keep what you currently have or you could sell/give that one away.

Our home resort pitched that same idea to us a few years ago. The points conversion price was a little more than what we originally bought the week for in the early '80's. We said we didn't want to pay double for what we already have. Our week is floating so we aren't tied to going the same week each year.

We ended up buying a cheap/resale points package associated with Vacation Village. Now we have our original 'week' as well as our 'points week' which when booked wisely has always allowed us to get between 2 & 4 weeks from those points. Of course you will still have extra exchange fees, but only 1 maintenance fee, for using more weeks from the points package.

We even used some of our points to book a points week following our 'week' at our home resort. We enjoyed a 2 week stay there and they even let us stay in the same unit for the 2 weeks! :whoopie:

So that occasional short stay will cost you $5000

Doesnt make sense to me when you can buy a cheap points ownership on ebay as moonstone suggests

The availability for booking 3 or 4 nights is pretty limited, and when there is desirable availability, it costs a whole lotta points.

Points conversion is not worth the expenses.
