Congestion pricing in NYC starts June 30th

Well not like you would ever drive into Manhattan. That is just crazy. Aren't the parking fees over $100 per day? In Seattle the hotels are charging $75 a night. I'm sure Manhattan is even higher.
We drive thru manhattan to visit my son. Now it will be an extra hour or more each way to avoid it.

If they start tolling travel times will be reduced.

Again not necessarily true - from a commuter standpoint this will only increase congestion in other areas to avoid the problem pricing-
Coming from a visitors/tourism standpoint most this is just another obscene money grab…

again not sure how often you visit but even public transportation from the outer boroughs is packed and standing room only by 5am earlier even still for those traveling from Nj…

Not to go around it wont, and i have to go twice per visit. once in once out. its not really just 9 bucks.
Wouldn't going around cost more than $9?

That is the point of charging. Get people to use other options.

Just like timeshares. I wanted to buy more Marriott contracts but the outrageous maintenance fees pushed me to HGVC.

And they know that. Thus why it is considered a money grab.
Well at least the people hoping that the government will operate more like a business are getting their wish. Seattle uses variable pricing models for on street parking and WSDOT uses it for the freeway express lanes. We will see more on this in the future. I think they have the same thing in Orlando and Miami.

Businesses strive to increase revenue and drive down expenses. In many cases government only does the former not the latter.

Yes, there are express lanes on several interstates in Florida. Those however are optional with an alternative running parallel. I guess driving into NYC is optional too but there is no alternative.

Generally correct. Our state patrol tried to increase efficiency by automating speed enforcement with cameras but the legislature is balking.

i believe it will cost less money, just more time, more time in traffic, and more tailpipe emissions for the area, thus a different congestion for my dollar.
Aren't the bridge tolls up to $20 by now? Plus aren't they removing all of the toll plazas and charging both directions?

The tolls are already set up so you pay going into the city no matter what bridge or tunnel you use, no toll collected going out. so the 9 bucks is in addition to whatever they collect
