When renting a Vistana unit third-party, what's the best way to verify the reservation? Call the front desk? Or will Vistana support verify a reservation for someone not on the reservation?

Answered my own question, just call the front desk!

Until a reservation is in a guests name, no one should be giving out any information. I believe the official policy was changed so that a guest on a reservation couldn't necessarily confirm the reservation. Supposedly the only way to do it is to do a 3 way call with the owner on the line giving permission to give out the information. Personally I think once the guest is listed on the confirmation that the resort should be able to verify it directly with the guest and that may be the way many resorts do but I think the official policy is that shouldn't happen.

With Marriott, you're able to confirm online with the reservation number and your (the guest) last name. Is that not also the case with Vistana reservations?

It should show up if you use the Marriott confirmation number. This is different than the Vistana confirmation number. You can also add their Bonvoy number to the reservation and it should show up in their Bonvoy account.

Whenever you put the reservation in a different persons name they will show up as the guest and you can have the confirmation sent directly to their email address.
