Condo rentals in Hawaii?

Are you looking to find a condo to rent for you to stay in or trying to rent out a condo or timeshare unit/week that you own?

I currently am using Koala, the tug2 marketplace, and word of mouth.

I use VRBO/Home Away and AirBnB.

There are also many commercial operations that put inventory on sites such as those because those sites generate traffic. If you poke around you might be able to locate the company's website, where you can usually rent the exact same unit for less (because you cut out the service fee charged by those sites).

There are also situations in which we made an initial rental via one of those sites, but in the process of doing the transaction we developed a relationship with the owner and got comfortable doing direct rentals, again with a cost savings.
 
I have the exact same experience as @T_R_Oglodyte. I usually prefer to rent my weeks and then go through VRBO?HomeAway or AirBnB to go somewhere else, rather than exchange my weeks through Interval International. I own in Hawaii and seldom find comparable properties using the exchange services. I also tend to go to places with no timeshares at all, especially in Europe.
 
We have a rental and have been doing short and long term for years. Our tenant told us he was moving at the end of March and when we started advertising, we received 2-3 requests each day wanting to rent it. Our friend has four condos in Waikiki that he rents on a weekly basis and he is booked up. We have never seen it this busy. We increased our price 20 percent from one year ago and it didn’t matter. Don't forget traditional travel sites like Expedia: https://www.expedia.com/
We rented several condos on Maui using them. That is, until we found a property and building we liked, and now we rent from whatever the owners in that building use, like vbro or airbnb.

VRBO is owned by Expedia. HomeAway and VRBO are the same renral sites however when purchased by expedia, they did away with HomeAway labels. Since the acquisition, you can go to a number of sites owned by expedia and get to the same properties. I believe that vacationrenter.com and booking.com are also owned by expedia.

Until you mentioned it, I didn't realize that Expedia owns all of these:

I did notice that my Chase Sapphire Reserve card uses Expedia for booking traval.
 
I met a couple at the beach in Maui that is going to be using vacasa.con to manage the condo they just bought. Vacada seems to manage a large number of properties.

Looks as if Expedia has built a monopoly for the rental market. Other than Airbnb, I can't think of any other well know sites for vacation rentals.
 
If on Maui and looking for a full service manager you might check out Maui Resort Rentals.

Most managers will want 20-25% commission and collect/pay the Hawaii TAT and GET taxes of around 14.5%, depending on island.

It's probably not well-known but you can even use Marriott Bonvoy points at Homes & Villas by Marriott. The cash price tends to be higher but you can also earn points. https://homes-and-villas.marriott.com

I think booking.com was acquired by Priceline, which is not part of Expedia. I know that when I go to booking.com, it's not the same inventory that I see at hotels.com or hotwire.

I've had some good results at Priceline. On about four or five occasions I've turned up inventory at booking.com that wasn't showing up at anyother sites. Sometimes it has been properties that show up as unavailable at other sites. But more often its been a rate that isn't available elsewhere, even booking directly at the hotel website. It's happened often enough that when I'm digging for a deal or I'm having trouble finding inventory in an area, I make sure to check booking.com directly
