We are leaving soon for the Grand Mayan Riviera Maya and I am trying to decide whether to bring my MacBook or not. From what I read the wireless is not free, even quite expensive. Is it available in the units? How much is the cost? Is there a public computer where I could access email? I am spoiled, many places in Mexico offer free wireless. I hate to pay for it.
Thanks for your help.

It is available, but not free. In Cabo the cost was 650 pesos per week - about $100 USD in November 2009. They do have computers in the gift shop at Riviera Maya that you can purchase time to use. These are declining balances and we have used those to check and respond to email during our stay. These are fairly reasonably priced.

When we were there

The internet lounge had 8 computers available, the cost was around 70 pesos per hour, $5.00, they gave you a card with an ID and Password, that you could use until it was exhausted.
Then you could go downstairs to the deli/snack bar for a treat. :whoopie:

We just returned from the GM in Nuevo Vallarta. I was surprised to find that in the last year they have installed computers in each of the living rooms of the 1 & 2 BR units (not sure if they are available in the studios). Since all GM units are pretty much identical from one location to another, I would expect that there will soon be computers at all of the resorts (if they're not already). I know there was some charge for internet usage, however since internet is included in our contract, I'm not sure what it is. Sorry.

They moved the Internet Lounge downstairs so it is now on the same floor as the deli at the other end . The cost was still 70 pesos ( $5.50 USD ) /hour or 40 pesos ( $3.10 USD ) /0.5 hour last April.

I used it every couple of days for the 2 weeks we were there. The cost at the GM Nuevo Vallarta was much higher. We have stayed 5 times at the Grand Mayans in Riviera Maya and Nuevo Vallarta, staying 2 weeks each visit.

The above information is good to know. We leave for the Grand Mayan Maya Riviera in 4 weeks and now I know to leave my netbook at home and just use the PCs at the Deli. Thanks!!!

Thanks for the help. I have now decided to leave my MacBook at home for the 3 weeks we will be there.

I am looking forward to getting away from the ice, snow & cold!
