When I went to my doctor for mid shoulder pain, he gave me a trigger point injection (which helped a lot) and did x-rays and tells me I have a mild compression fracture at t-5, t-6. due to scoliosis and uneven disc wear. Is this something that will heal and go away? I do have osteoporosis, but am on forteo for that. He said something about possibly using nasal calcitonin and that it creates endorphins. That sounds like it helps with pain, but not necessarily healing. Are they actions I need to be more careful with now to not make it worse?
Thanks,
Liz

Calcitonin is a hormone involved in calcium metabolism. It decreases the activity of cells that break down bone. It also decreases absorption of calcium.

My husband in 1985 have a compression fracture in the exact same place. His was due to a blow to the top of his head (a shelving unit came down off the wall above him while he was sitting at his desk at work).

It took about 8 months for him to fully heal and not feel the affects of it. After about 6 weeks, he started doing some back exercises for muscle/tendon strength in his back and that helped.

Those sites were helpful. I hadn't realized calcitonin could be used for the pain of fractures. Many years ago, I had used calcitonin from salmon as an injection for osteoporosis (maybe in 1988), and had an allergic reaction, so hopefully there are less reactions with the nasal spray. I am taking forteo, an injectable that seemed to be really helping when I had a Dexa test a year ago. I'm really small boned anyway, so having had osteoporosis since I was 40 and I'm now almost 60, could mean that even with treatment, my bones just aren't what they should be.

Today if feels much better after the trigger point injection.

Thanks,
Liz
