Complaint on Timeshare Sales Schemes Rise

Thanks for sharing.

It is a good thing when NEWS organizations try to get the word out! Maybe their will be a few who will be spared from the FRAUD because they read the local paper.

It is a shame that elderly people, who are more likely than not still using "land lines," and on fixed incomes are so susceptible to the unsolicited offers that they get from Hustlers looking to do no more than separate them from their money by misleading them and/or outright cheating them.

The article points out the outright FRAUD that, unfortunately goes on everyday when unsolicited calls from telemarketers get inside the head of susceptible people eager to accept an offer to get rid of what they now see as a liability.

There is no doubt in my mind that someone in the Wyndham organization sold my name to such HUSTLERS because rarely a week goes by that I don't get an unsolicited call purporting to sell me on the idea that some Corporation wants my timeshare for their clients.

Did you notice the comments of some of some of the folks responding on the newspaper's website.

A guy with the USERNAME: Cesspool said the following:

Believe it or not, these are not scams. The companies do exactly what they say they'll do. For an upfront payment/fee of approximately $600, the company lists the property on a website available 24/7 worldwide. If no buyers come along, the listing sits there. End of that discussion. Now, are there slick, borderline crooked telemarketing calling potential customers who make promises they cannot keep? He11 yea. World is full of that breed, in & out of timeshare resale companies. But, the properties are listed for sale which is what the contract stipulates ... so as usual 'caveat emptor' unfortunately.

Unfortunately, is right! As long as people are susceptible they will fall prey to unethical conduct if not outright Fraud.

Check-out this guy's rationalization:

Unsure how this is a scam. The companies are basically offering to list/advertise the property. If you do not like the form of that listing or advertising then don't sign the contract.

There are some reputable folks out there trying to make an honest living doing re-sales. However, anyone who would knowingly take hundreds of dollars from Victims Up-Front with a promise to list their property at an inflated price on a glossy website, knowing that it will never sell, is a crook as far as I am concerned.

This poster philygirl got it right:

ITS ALL A SCAM,,,,I KNOW,,I WAS HIRED BY A COMPANY,,HERE IN ST PETE,,,THEY TRICK PEOPLE AND LIE TO THEM,,THEY TAPE THEM,,,AND MAKE THEM THINK THE TIMESHARE HAS A BUYER WAITING,,,WHEN I FOUND OUT JUST WHAT WAS REALLY HAPPENING,,,I STAYED ONLY TO GIVE THE CUSTOMERS THE PHONE NUMBER TO THE AUTHORITES,,ALSO THE PROPERTY LISTS OF DIFFERENT TIMESHARE OWNERS ARE SOLD FROM ONE COMPANY TO THE NEXT,,,IT IS ALL A SCAM,,,,AND I WAS OUT OF THERE,,,
