Maybe I'm missing something, but isn't paying 3k for a conversion a decent deal if it gets added to your VIP status/developer points? Buying a retail contract and PICing it seems to be more costly and risky with the changing rules of pic....
No .. the fixed week brought resale would be labeled as a "Resale" unit within the member account. If you HAD brought a resale directly from the developer, there are ways to do SEVERAL conversions to enhance the VIP position (up the ladder). PIC has been seriously diminished from forever to a term length of 3 or 5 years (another way for the Sales Group to "Step" you up in ownership with buying MORE developer points in several years).
If
buying points on the resale market, either buy for ARP or buy for lowest MFs. Or buy to
USE the underlying fixed week or FIXED WEEK at least 3/4 of the time ... summer week at Westwinds or March week in Pompano Beach. Both of those fixed weeks would be rentable OVER the MFs due to desirable season of the year.
YOU must have a plan to USE Wyndham. AND to USE the vacation time, it MUST be generally planned 12 to 10 months in advance. If planning to use at the last minute ... 45-30 days before checkin ... either you were driving or had the budget to fly last minute.
Personally, if you want flexible terms .. buy DVC. I can rent my few points inside of a week, use 3 years worth of points (bank, current, borrowed) at a time, and via renting thru an agent get MORE than my MFs quickly. And get a discount off my AP (annual Disney Pass) .... used when I pay cash for RCI Getaways. Yes, I own DVC/AKV ... had stayed many times on site via RCI while renting my DVC points to others. DVC is never obtained FREE as they do have Right of First Refusal ... but owners like it.
