About an hour drive from the Lihue Airport in Princeville Hawaii on the Island of Kauai sits the Club Wyndham Shearwater resort. Today's review is of the Two bedroom unit on the third floor (Unit 311). The buildings are two and three stories tall and have lush tropical plants throughout. There is one pools, and grills on the property.

The room was a two bedroom with a huge kitchen area that has everything you need... Both bathrooms have a walk in shower and a jacuzzi bath tub in the master bedroom bath. The living room was ample with a pullout sofa bed. There is a separate desk area near the entrance. The deck is large with with a view of the golf course and ocean. The deck looks down on the ocean below with stunning views. Staff was great!!! Note, there is no air condition but plenty of fans.

So did you love it? It's our favorite on Kauai, but Westin is my go-to lately for cheap stays via exchange. I need to get back to Shearwater.

I loved it... One of the best views was down the island

Is it worth double the Ka Eo Kai 1 bedroom in your opinion? Sheerwater looks the nicest but you HAVE to book a 2 bedroom at 450,000 points a week vs 203,000 points a week at Ka Eo Kai for top floor.

I personally would stay at Ka Eo Kai and stay longer. I booked shearwater with Wyndham rewards (30k points per night). I would add two days with Wyndham rewards on the front or back of Ka Eo Kai and decide for future stays

Cindy, or Cliff, do you find the lack of A/C to be an issue? Does it matter what time of year?
I think maybe August-September is warmer, but June is no problem at all. We were cold on the deck on June, and we were there for 3 weeks, almost ending on July 4th. I think we left 7/3. I had a hard time staying on the deck much longer than a few minutes. But it was particularly breezy during our stay.

I still try to get Shearwater via RCI exchange because it's less expensive, and I have so many TPU and points to use to get it. I don't mind paying the $299 exchange fee, when I can whittle those points down, especially the TPU's I have built up.

Book some weekdays at Shearwater. You will be glad you did.

We are staying more at the Westin for our next trip. Just a few days at Shearwater, unless I can get exchanges for some of it.

Thanks Cindy. We can't trade through RCI, just II and it is not listed as one of their resorts. We have a week at WPV in May and seem to exchange into there fairly easily. Good to know about the A/C. With plenty of ceiling fans it would be fine I am sure.

We recently spent 4 nights a Ka Eo Kai in mid-October of this year. I couldn't have been more disappointed with the condition of the resort unit we were in (2 bedroom deluxe upper unit, balcony view of the checkin building across the parking lot).

Spacious, yes. "Unique" floor layout, yes. Large wraparound deck, yes. All things that made it bearable, but it ended quickly there.

Worn/old furnishings, dated kitchen cabinetry and appliances, and unclean/cracked dinnerware (ugly Pahio logoed plates and bowls). The worst part was the lack of cleanliness and upkeep of various parts of the unit. I could see mold growth from neglected roof leaks down at the baseboards, along most of the window sills there was dirt and mold. The deck area was also very dirty around the sliding doors. It was like the hadn't considered looking at any type of deep (or even not so deep) cleaning for months/years. I asked when the last refurbishment was done and was told that one was "coming soon".

And don't kid yourself about the lack of air conditioning. Hot/humid throughout our stay in October and there were not "trade winds" blowing through the unit. We left the windows open and ceiling fans on full time/full blast and used the one portable fan to cool us while sleeping.

Spent the last 4 nights of our stay at Bali Hai and loved it there.

Our son thought Bali Hai looked pretty worn, too, and he was in a 3 bed presidential.

It might depend on the room... I could see the ocean from my room (Golf course view). I think that led to an unobstructed view of the ocean and the ocean breeze. I was also there in October. I found the decorations to be "old Hawaii" and found it enjoyable... It could also been seen as dated and I would not disagree with @pagosajim. I had just come from the Westin Princeville which is beautiful but feels corporate. It was nice to feel a throw back to timeshares of a different era. Just a different perspective. I just feel lucky to be able to be in Hawaii so I always feel grateful.

Headed to Club Wyndham Shearwater via RCI exchange this month Dec 2025. What is the best strategy to get the best possible room location with ocean view if possible? What should we ask for when we call? Thanks.

Ask for anything in the 1st building. Units that end in 1-5, so 201,101, 102, 202, 302, 103, 203, 303, 104, 204, 304, 105 or 205. Those are sure to get a great view.

Buildings surrounding the pool are not as good. 109, 209, 110, 210, 310, 111, 211, 311 are all good.
