I was looking at the Club member magazine that comes in the email and noticed they are having a club member Hawaii cruise this summer. I recently looked at the same cruise on NCL and the pricing looked a lot higher on the HGVC member's special cruise. I just compared apples to apples and if you book via HGVC, not only does it cost several hundred more per person, but the pricing shows the higher price with using 10,000 club points.

This is specifically for the "club members cruise." I figured they must have some kind of additional perks for club members and only saw, 2 cocktail parties, $50 OBC and prepaid gratuities. I don't see how those can add up to the enormous pricing of booking as part of the large group vs. booking exact same cruise via NCL.

I think that whole club member cruise thing is BS. I am sure that HGVC gets a kickback for having it, and like usual with things like this owners get screwed.

We get 'Special Offers' and affinity cruise offers from alumni and business associations all the time. Invariably the same cruises can be purchased for less directly from the cruise line or from a consolidator. The association or business uses these for fund raising. Whether you call it 'getting a kickback', or they simply make a profit by buying a large block of cabins from the cruise line and re-selling the individual cabins to their affinity members, it isn't about getting their people the best deal.

There aren't any of these associations I want to spend my vacation time with enough to pay a premium price to do so.

I remember once belonging to a club that offered discount rental car rates.. I looked it up with and without membership pricing was the same...:annoyed:

I was looking at the cruise options too and they don't seem like a good deal, although the Europe river cruise looked like a better value than the Hawaii cruise. In general, Hawaii cruises do tend to be excessive in cost compared to other options

Using Points for Timeshare Vacations is the best USE

Using your HGVC points for timeshare vacations whether they are HGVC resorts or RCI resorts is the best use of your points.

If you use your points for cruises, airline tickets, rental cars, or conversions to Hilton Honors you are losing value even if you do get some benefit.
