I usually like to visit palm desert every easter if possible. Im a little concerned , last 2 recent reviews I read are fairly negative. (stating unit quality has deteriorated and outsied parties are being allowed into the kids pool. does anyone have any ihonest nsights or suggestions re: this? Or should I start looking elsewhere.

The overall Club has deteriorated over the past 5 years...furnishings are getting shabby, cleanliness is getting poor, appliances and accessories not working...the maintenance staff do everything they can to help and are always friendly; however, reception customer service has gone from lukewarm to indifferent (with some staff exceptions)...but certainly no longer treated as "members".

The deterioration seems to be a reflection of poor management and priority setting. There were members with children being assigned to the Adult area and Adult only groups being assigned to the Family areas and no attempt made to help re-assign members to appropriate areas and rooms. There were guests smoking and drinking at the family pools during the day, some of which was quite heavy...this coupled with the Manager's pool side volley ball game at the main family pool on a Sunday at Noon with alcohol being freely provided by the Club contributed to a lack of a "family environment" at the family pools. The Club also now allows outside "camps" to visit the main family pool every afternoon with 10 to 20 children taking over the pool and the facilities.

The grounds and the setting are as pretty as ever at Club Intrawest but the Club seems to be losing it's way in providing it's members with the level of vacation experience that was offered in earlier years.

Unfortunately, unless there is an improvement in the quality of the furnishings, appliances, cleanliness and overall management of the Club, it would be hard to recommend the Club to anyone.

Where are these reviews you're talking about? All of the recent ones here on TUG are still quite good.

Re: the adult pools - the last time I was there (3 years ago in March) the adult pools were exactly that - and I'm hoping they still are when I go there again this March for my spring break. But I don't think it's possible to have everyone who has children assigned to a family pool environment and everyone without kids to the adults-only pool buildings - and I wouldn't expect that - especially during a time that is very high occupancy. What I do expect is that everyone respects the adults-only pool environments.

The review I posted above is the most recent in Trip Advisor. Cant seem to locate the second one.
How recent were our tUG reviews???

I was also there 3 years ago , and it was verygood. Year before last, Units were not as clean but still pretty good. Hopefully, they improved this year.
 
Just a FYI

Club intrawest @ Palm Desert has 3 clusters of buildings each with there own pool area. Two of the clusters are for mixed use of adults and families. The third cluster is said to be adults only. So if you're an adult and don't wish to hear kids playing in the pool area, ask for a room in the adult cluster.

There is also a main club house bldg, this is where the "main" pool is located. There are no units around this pool. And it is always opened for all guests.

Hi Bill! When I was there last, two of the clusters were adults-only - do you know if that's changed now so only one is? We're going to be in one of the 1BR terrace units this time, so since we'll be on the second floor it doesn't matter as much, but I would like to be by the lap pool.

For benjamin - there are 2 reviews here from April 2008, and quite a few from 2007, all of which were good and averaging ratings of close to 9 out of 10.

Let me know your experience after you visit CI this coming March. Hopefully the negative tripadvisor review I posted earlier was just an exception to the rule.

Well, I will be posting a review here, but you need to be a member to read it. Personally I don't go by Tripadvisor reviews too much, since many of the folks there are not overly familiar with timeshares. Tug's membership fee of $15 is well worth it to see reviews from people who are familiar with them.
 
Good idea

Ill probably pay my membership fee this week or nxt week.

Im hoping CI gets into upgrade mode soon.

We were last there about 3 years ago so maybe I wrong but both times were had kids with us and were told that one cluster was for adults only. ( maybe they switch one cluster back and forth based on how many families are there?? )

I've never stayed in a terrace unit but they sure look nice. Your own huge deck all to yourselves (about 12'x12') . And remember the terrace units have the shower which is open to the sky. Watch out for planes?! :hysterical:

The only way I could convince my husband to go was to reserve one of the terrace units so that we knew we wouldn't have anybody with elephant feet above us. Yes, we'll look out for those planes while in the shower.
 
The terrace Units - do you mean the upstairs 1 br units?
Bill, Tashamen do you guys have any suggestions on which are the best 2 br units to request?

The terrace units are the up stairs 1 bd units at the ends all the bldgs. They have a huge private deck/terrace associated with them. Must be at least 12x12 (may be bigger)

I like the 2 bd units which are downstairs because we spend so much time outside and we can just expand right off the patio into the grass. Basically never using the front door. BUT some people just don't like being below anyone and therefore prefer the up stairs.

Also avoid the first cluster of family bldgs ( closest to the main club house) the pool there is very small. Even though the farthest cluster from the club house is the farthest cluster from the club house, it has a great pool area and a great view of the golf couse with a beautifull lake right in front of you.
