The front bumper plastic trim work kept falling loose on every trip. It is held in place with rubber grommets that the plastic snaps around and has one tiny little screw in the wheel well to make it secure. The threads on the tiny little screw stripped out the plastic on the wheel well and alas no screw.

The trunk latch was defective and the trunk popped open on its own several times.

After three attempts, I gave up explaining to the Avis employee, who speaks English as a 5th language, what the problem was.

It had about 11,500 miles on it.

Chrysler doesn't deserve a bail out.

Avis should learn that people like the inside of the windshield clean also.

After reading bad reports on Avis a couple years ago, I actually called their Kauai and Maui offices directly and asked if they cleaned their cars between every rental. Much to my surprise, they told me not if they're busy.

Slamming Avis

Last week we were in Spokane and couldn't get out due to the weather that hit the Pacific Northwest. We ended up driving to Portland and were lucky to get a flight to SFO from were it would be an easy 2 hour drive back to Sacramento. Two days for what should have been 3 hours.
At the SFO Avis car rental the agent was very friendly and nice and even made a funny comment about how it looked like we had been traveling a while. I appreciated her humor and assistance. But, obviously there was a misunderstanding on her verbal instructions about re-fueling the vehicle when arriving in Sacramento.
Anyway, three hours later we were in Sacramento, picked up our car at the airport parking lot and proceeded to Avis to drop the car off. When the female attendant told me the final charges I nearly fainted. I had agreed to pay $168 for a one day 24 hour rental to drive about 100 miles and was told since we wouldn't be using that much gas, they would top it off @ around $2.00 a gallon. The drop off attendant told me they were charging me a re-fueling fee (never mentioned) charging for a full tank of gas and charging $8 a gallon.
Not accepting that, I told her I would just go to the gas station across the street and fill it up since it would only take about 3 gallons. As I hadn't signed the return contract yet and still had some of my things in the car, legally I still had 21 hours left to have the car in my possession. As I started to get in the car the attendant grabbed my arm and twisted it trying to get the keys from my hand and screaming at me that she wasn't going to allow me to fill the tank. To avoid a fight with her I just got out of the car and headed to the office to talk to the supervisor who called the Airport manager.
I was tempted to have an airport deputy arrest her for assault, but instead just wanted to get home.
Her supervisor and the airport manager couldn't apologize enough for her behavior and dropped ALL of the gas charges, but I kept thinking Avis must be instructing their employees to try to run up charges.
I spoke to someone else who had used that Avis location in the past and he stopped renting from them as they always found extra cleaning costs or something even when the car came back in the same condition it left.
Some companies just don't get it when it comes to serving their clients.

For what it's worth, I rented a car earlier this month from Avis in Ft. Lauderdale and it was probably the best car rental experience I've had in years. The agent was polite and friendly and didn't try to sell me extras aside from a tank of gas at what turned out to be $2/gallon and to bring the car back empty. I was driving a total of 600 miles so that was fine with me.

The car, a Chevy Cobalt was very clean and drove nicely and returning the car was as easy as anyplace I've been. I came away with a very favorable opinon of Avis and of that model car as a result.

AVIS

I rented from Avis on the Big Island about 2 months ago, and everything was ok, but like you said they don't clean the cars between rentals.
