I saw an ad for a European Christmas Market River Cruise over the weekend. My SIL had said that she wanted to go to the Christmas Markets sometime in the future. I thought this might be a great opportunity for my generation of the family to have a group vacation. My sister is ready to sign up, DH is non-committal. Have heard from DB and SIL yet.

Has anyone done any of these types of trips? Just curious about comments and suggestions.

Dress warmly. VERY warmly. Learn to enjoy gluhwein.

Other than being bundled up and going to street markets with bazillions of Christmassy items, it's a river cruise where you only unpack once and enjoy (indoor) onboard activities. And drink (optional).

I have not done a river cruise, but have been to a few Christmas markets in both Salzburg and Munich. My wife and I really enjoyed those, and highly recommend going.

A couple of co-workers have done river cruises and really enjoyed them. I hope to find time to do one in the next few years.

I have been to the Christmas markets in Budapest and Prague - they start after our Thanksgiving. Decent evening activity - as are the opera houses, local bars, and dining out.

Enjoy the trip ...

Have not been to any of the Christmas markets, but have taken a number of European river cruises, all with Viking. There are other well-thought-of river cruise companies, but we started with Viking, loved them, and have stuck with what we know. Their services and amenities have only gotten better over the years.
