Trip advisor is a good website for hotel reviews but I've found it to be one of the worst for timeshare reviews. You're better off reading the reviews here on TUG.

Besides, there is absolutely no reason to drive through the neighborhood on the mainland unless you just want too.

Absolutely agree. At Frenchman's Cove about 30% of the tripadvisor reviews are for the hotel but listed under the timeshare.

As for driving through Riviera beach on Blue Heron, if this scares you then my advice is not to travel to Central America, large cities in Italy, almost all large cities in the US. Don't even think about South America or Mexico.

I carry a handgun if I drive down to Ocean Pointe. When I get there my first stop is the Palm Beach Shores PD. Even though I'm authorized to carry it in Florida I give it to them till I leave as I don't see any need for it.

I think it's more perception than reality. I guess when you go on vacation most people want a worry free and fantsyland experience. That's not always possible.
I think some of the neighborhoods I drive thru to get to Kennedy Airport are much scarier that Blue Heron Blvd.

You might want to keep that gun if you ever drive down to Miami.;)

Slightly off topic but related to OP:

Since the summer months are clasified as gold for OP, is it really tough to get a reservation during the summer months? My thought was to try utilizing the Florida Club one year to reserve directly into OP. We own a gold GV week and can technically reserve summer weeks at OP, albeit only 6 months out. We are not trying to target super prime time like 4th July week or anything like that but since we have kids, we would want to target anytime from mid June - end of August. Thanks.

Actually, you should call Marriott today and ask what's available for booking June and July at Ocean Pointe this year (5 & 6 months from now). If they say nothing then you know your best bet will be to utilize DC Points or Interval International for future years.

I hope you report here what Marriott tells you.

By the way, if you own two weeks at Grande Vista then you can call Marriott 7 months in advance when making a Florida Club reservation.

I just got off the phone with Marriott and the rep told me she couldn't give me information on general availability for OP for summer months. To her credit, she did try to "work around the system" and find someone that had an account with OP availability for summer on their screen but didn't have any luck. Apparently they are limited to looking up availability for specific resorts unless you own there and are able to book for the target season.

Actually we spent a week in South Beach a few years ago. I don't know if that qualifies as Miami but we rode a scooter all over town without problems.

Didn't mean to knock Miami, Iust making your point about how safe it is up in Palm Beach shores. Miami Beach is fine and I have always felt safe there. However, just like any other big city, there are sections of greater Miami where you need to be very careful. Just pointing out the contrast.
