I knew it was coming, but I didnt know when.

from the June 12 press release

The renovation also includes the development of 47 timeshare units in partnership with Wyndham Hotel Group’s sister company, Wyndham Vacation Ownership. The units, which will be operated under the CLUB WYNDHAM® brand, are expected to be completed and available to timeshare owners in the fourth quarter of 2013. -

Chicago in the future

Having lived in Chicago and still having relatives there, I have been quite interested in this development, and have been eagerly awaiting its arrival.

I am not interested in buying, but I will rent there.

Jim

Wow! Chicago is an easy drive for us - this will definitely go on my "favorites" list.

Nice location! I live in Chicago so wouldn't be staying there but I always wish there were more "city" timeshares.

Deb

This is the site is the old Chicago Executive Hotel. it looks like they remodeled it. I will have to check it out for lunch one day, it is about 4 blocks away from work. I did get an invitation to preview Chicago or New York for $399 or less. Have to see what the points chart is.

How safe is the area around the hotel? It seems in Chicago that is very important.

That Wacker drive location is about as safe as it gets (as long as you don't go wandering down a dark alley by yourself in the middle of the night). It's right by the Wrigley building and North Michigan Avenue (the Mag Mile).

In fact, the city just launched a project to bring some life to the section of Michigan Avenue just south of it, hoping to bring more retail and restaurants to that stretch of it heading toward Grant Park and the Art Institute.

I wonder if they will give WorldMark owners any access to units we can book as an affiliate resort like they do for some of the other Wyndham resorts? WorldMark had plans to expand to the Chicago area when they opened Galena in 2003 but those plans never went anywhere. The scuttlebutt was that the expansion was blocked for political reasons. (Zoning, access, whatever.)

WorldMark access to Chicago might reduce some of the derisive comments that you hear from some WorldMark owners concerning Galena. I'm in a minority of WorldMark owners I guess, we have stayed at the WorldMark Galena resort quite a few times.

With only 47 units being developed as timeshare, I doubt very seriously that Wyndham would share any of those as an affiliate with the redheaded step child Worldmark.

Actually, it's the old Hotel 71. Pretty modern design last I went.

Am curious what the points chart on this would looks like. I've always wanted to stay downtown for events but DH always wonder why we should pay and stay when we're an hour away.

I work at the Mart which is within a few blocks of this hotel. Nice location for sure.

You should, I have stayed at the Beverly Hilton (twice), and it's only 45 minutes away, much cheaper than a DUI

(Hilton Honors Points) Also Waldorf Astoria and Times Square Hilton

I'm excited. Haven't been to Chicago since the mid 80's and really enjoyed it in warm weather. Based on my prior experience not interested in a winter stay.

Would like to see more than just hotel-sized units. Has anyone here actually used their WYN points for any of the high-point urban units? I can see the draw for Chicago however. Even a small property there would be nice.

Always the pessimist. Wyndham Durango only has 36 units and we have access there. Bentley Brook is a larger with 87 units but still not a mega resort and we have access there. In the past we had access to Wyndham Waikiki in Hawaii which is probably a more sought after location than Chicago would be.

Maybe they'd add WorldMark access for only 2 units like they do at a lot of the Wyndham resorts but that would be two more than we have now. Don't say you can't book anything with only 2 units available, in the past we booked Wyndham Nashville directly with our WorldMark credits. It can be done.

Something is better than nothing, though it probably goes as an affiliate for travelshare than Worldmark due to very limited number of overall inventory. A nice one-two combo for WM Galena.

You and the other Worldmark realists will have to break down and buy into Wyndham, just as I bought into Worldmark. The systems really complement each other nicely

Im just not sure most Worldmark owners would be able to handle having nothing to complain about

Om going maintenance fees are too expensive for my taste

Ron,

I've scratched my my head so many times to get a M or so starter package. It's just not many locations to frequent in West coast. I can book affiliates through WM+A or travelshare, trade, rent from VIP or exchange for my occasional visits. All are options better than holding the bag myself.

Just done a trade with another tugger, Tim...

Wyndham might be the one I'd not own in foreseeable future as I'm mostly covered. Others' mileage may vary...

No question Wyndham fees are more than Worldmark. For example a two bedroom at Indio is about 185000 Wyndham points in prime season..at my mf rate thats $925. Worldmark owners will pay 10000 credits or about $550 for a 2 bedroom at the same resort

But if you factor in the cost to purchase.. and amortize over 10 years. things even out.

Between having direct access to 70 or so WorldMark resorts, some access to another 20 or so Wyndham resorts for booking with WorldMark credits (no travelshare, just a legacy account that has that option), and the exchange companies, I don't foresee making any additional timeshare purchases.

I don't do many exchanges but I do pick up weeks on RCI extra vacations, especially when they have one of their sales. In their most recent sale I picked up a week in a 1 br at the WorldMark Las Vegas Blvd resort for about $235. if I booked that same unit with my WorldMark credits it would have been 9,000 credits plus a housekeeping charge, which is equivalent to about $600.

No big complaints from this WorldMark owner, but in general I think you are right, most Worldmark owners would not be able to handle having nothing to complain about.

It is just matter of opinion, half-empty or half-full. Vacation ownership is for fun and happiness. If someone is really unhappy with the ownership, no doubt he/she would and should sell it...YMMV

It's within a mile from where I live and I have a couple of kids.

I would not be living around here if it was not safe. :D
