Resorts Owned
HGVC at Boulevard and Craigendarroch Lodges
Someone just posted this on the HGVC owner FB group and thought that I would share. They had used points to book for guests at Kingsland and at check-in, their guests were asked to complete this. I have seen one of the Vegas properties try this also. There is no rule that requires this, no corporate policy...just a fishing expedition. I would advise guests to not complete this and if pushed to do it, ask for the corporate policy requiring it. It is not in the rules guide. I know the Vegas property, I think Elara, who had tried this stopped because I have not heard of folks getting it lately so I wonder if an Elara person is now at Kingsland.

Interesting, I wonder if other resorts will also follow suit.

Absolutely should not fill it out.
If someone is renting out the unit via a rental site such as Koala, then the owner doesn't have contact with the renter.

I thought about that also. It would be interesting to hear what the Koala folks think about this and if they advise renters about it. I think this is a one off...same as the Vegas property was. I would not fill it out if I was a guest checking in...just say, sorry, I was advised by the owners not to complete forms like this.

Nothing on that form indicates it is an official HGV document. No logo, no doc/form # at the bottom. Looks like a random employee typed it up themselves.

I stayed at Kingsland in June renting from another owner. I was not given this to sign. If I had I wouldn’t have completed it.

I agree...kind of like those random sheets created by sale's folks....that is why I think this is just created there by an individual...and should be ignored.

We will be checking into Kingsland on Sunday, we have freinds traveling with us. I booked them their own unit. Will ve curious if they get the form. I did not buy a guest cert, as I will be there at check in. At least once they gave me grief for not having a guest certificate even when I was present at KL.

you don't need to get one for guests with you. I have done that many times. They can also use their CC for expenses as you are checking in.

report back if they show the form...but tell your guests not to complete it...or, at least, challenge them why they are asking it. It, obviously, isn't a corporate form. They probably won't though since you are checking in.

My first thought on this (and I could be completely wrong) is that HGV is flagging accounts that have a suspiciously high number of guest certificates for possible T&C violations, and this is a way to gather proof.

Side note - earlier this year I gave out 7 guest certificates to family members for a big family trip to Florida (Sea World). I was getting there after everyone so I couldn't check them in. Nobody had to fill out any forms that I know of.

I really doubt it. I think KL is just being buttholes....as usual. They are also the ones that consistently tell you that they need, at least $25k new money for upgrades, and talk down to resale owners. None of that is corporate policy...just someone there making stuff up.

I am aware of that, though the front desk manager acted like I was cheating by not buying the guest cert. I just pushed back, but its annoying.

Someone else on the same FB post said their guest at Ocean 22 in Myrtle Beach was verbally asked these questions. They were told it was a new policy.

My family was at Kings' Land at the end of July/beginning of August. We had 3 rooms reserved (one for my family, one for my sister-in-laws family, one for my mother-in-law). I had to check-in each room individually. My sister-in-law gave the details for her family and used her credit card for incidentals. Same with my mother-in-law. No issues and our check-in person was extremely nice/helpful.

When it comes from corporate and in the rules guide, it will be a new policy.... And on HGV letterhead. I think HGV staff are doing this on their own

But again, we have seen similar things being done at Elara, I think..it was Vegas but I think Elara, a few years ago but I have not heard of it happening, recently, there.

Agreed. HGV are certainly within their rights to implement a policy like this, and I'd not lose any sleep over it if it did come to pass. But, until it's a written rule, it's not a rule, as you say.

Cheers.

Can they see if it's a home week booking? If so, they can stuff it I would think based on everything I've read. If it isn't, then they could deny check in to someone if they tell them they paid for it. If you're there checking people in though I think again they should be OK with that - one big reason for multiple weeks ownerships is to have "family reunions" in multiple units and killing that is kind of like killing their Whales.

Even then though, you can book whatever you like for friends and family....but can only rent out, by the rules, your HW....so the property should not harass guests. If there is a concern, it is between corporate and the owners...I think this is just harassment and that annoys me.

Here are the check in requirements...nothing about an additional info on how you got the reservation:

Same with guest certs:

and allowed for friends and family:

No issues checking in at Kingsland yesterday. They did not present my friend with the form, but since I was standing there, it was obvious that we were actually friends. Also, unlike some past experiences, they did not complain about adding his name and credit card to his room, no mention of needing a guest certificate.

Other than the concierge pressuring us to attend a presentation, it went very smoothly.

It is used to find members using for commercial purposes. If it is completed with a rental rate then the member will be contacted or sent a letter to cease and desist renting out their reservations. Exception is home weeks.

I might guess because it sounds like the reservation was only in your name and no GC was involved, it might not be flagged as a possible rental.

Yes, no guest cert involved. I only jumped into this thread based on past experiences at KL where the front desk implied i should have used a guest certificate even when I was present at check-in. Fortunately no issues with that this time as well.
