I checked my personal Amex account this morning and discovered a small charge from coloadtest.com on 2/18. It's also on my Amex business card and Captial One card. Not on my Chase cards. A Google search turned up a scam of great magnitude across several banks. If not disputed, this small charge will turn into a large one. So check all your credit card accounts. Unfortunately, it means getting new cards with new numbers, so I'm glad I still have a couple of cards that weren't affected.

FWIW: Many credit cards these days offer the holder the option to be notified by their desired means (text, email, etc) when certain events occur. On most of the cards I hold, I have text notifications sent to me if ANY charges are made on our accounts. While I suspect many of us around TUG already use this option, it is worth a reminder just as a PSA....

We now return you to your previously scheduled programming.....already in progress.....

The solarwind hack has left many websites exposed. The biggest issue hackers have these days is sorting through the terabytes of exposed data and figuring out how to exploit it.

Protect yourself now. Set up alerts on your Credit Cards, Change passwords. This is not a joke and credit theft is only going to get worse.

I was using credit karma to view all of our accounts but some thing has happened to credit karma to the log in. This happened soon after Intuit bought credit karma. I was checking our accounts every week because I had lost my wallet last spring which had my personal information and credit cards. I did place locks on our credit and was able to view if and when some one tried to open an account. It happened just once that I'm aware of.

Whenever I see a CC charge I don't recognize, I ask my DW about it.
"Did you charge...?" Nearly always, she says no. Thinks for a minute. "Maybe."

The first thing I do every morning is check my bank accounts and credit card accounts. Hubs had an identity theft several years ago, so I put them all on the Bookmark Toolbar and do a check every day. We also did the credit lock for 2 years. Things have been OK.

I use Quicken to automatically download all our credit card transactions everyday. Our memory isn't so good anymore, and we might forget about a legitimate transaction if we wait for the statement.

I have several credit cards, but only use one. It notifies me of all new charges, and I review the account regularly. The others are all locked at the CC company's site. I also have alerts on file with all the credit reporting agencies, in case anyone tries to open new credit in my name. It'd be pretty difficult for a scammer to try and get over on me - been there, done that.

I think I did the same when I froze our accounts. Are you able to see all of your accounts online in one place. I was using credit karma but need to find somewhere more reliable.

I saw where you'd said you were having trouble with Credit Karma. I just checked, and my Credit Karma account is working fine. Not sure what's up?

Yes,I was thinking I should freeze our credit because of that breach, thanks for reminding me

I noticed that I can't log on to credit karma and on top of the page in a red banner it said there was a technical issue. I looked this up and found this article that explains I could be exposed.

There's "Mint" - an Intuit website - which I use.
Also, your bank (credit union) may have an online account aggregator.

I asked elsewhere and was told that my VPN might be the problem. It was. I'm logged in to credit karma now. Go figure. The smarter I think I get the more complicated things get to remind me I'm not as smart as I think. :D
