Buy a device ($50-100) and get 200MB/Mth data transfer at no charge for a year. Or pay for more bandwidth on a month-by-month basis (no contracts):

200MB - FREE for 12 months
500MB - $9.95
1GB - $19.95
2GB - $34.95
4GB - $49.95

I haven't used this personally, but I think it's a great option for many who need intermittent data access while traveling domestically and don't want to pay the hotel internet charges, etc. If anyone has used this, please post and let us know your experience with it so far.

Intriguing! And affordable! I could see this working good for some people.

Fairly limited coverage since it's 4G. It's basically just big cities. I checked a few places I travel, and some weren't covered.

Once you upgrade to a paid plan (or your free year of 200MB/month ends), it's not clear if you selectively choose which months you use it. You might be stuck with their cheapest plan ($9.95/month for 500MB) if you want to keep it. (If that's not the case, then it's an awesome contingency plan!)
