I have 100,000 points in Chase currently. If I transferred the points to Marriott, I would get 170,000 points? That's an interesting offer. But is it great? 100K = $1,500 in travel through the Chase portal. 170,000 points is worth about $850- maybe as high as $1,200 in hotels at the current hotel rates.

Not a good value. Plus, you are taking a sure thing through the Chase Portal for travel and moving it to a not-so-sure thing in Marriott Bonvoy points.

I just booked a hotel room today, worth $400 with tax, using my free night with Bonvoy Brilliant. The "up to" 85,000 point credit card, I could only get $400 in value from it. If I get an upgrade to my room, which I did request, it would be nice, but the "upgrades" are usually not all that great.

Completely agree, with the devaluation of the Bonvoy program, even at 70% bonus not a good use of Chase UR which are more valuable @.015 cents if you have the Reserve card.

Obviously, I have no idea where you are using your points but since late 2022 I've been getting close to 1.1 cents a point on average...so to me 170K BPs are worth well more than $1,700 and perhaps a bit less than $1,870. Now I'll be the first to admit that this is mainly because cash rates have gone through the roof...but so what?!?

The real difficulty I'm having with the offer is that that those 100K URs are also worth about $1,700 at United. And so I have about two weeks to decide if I need BPs more than I need United points (or even UR points for that matter).

Ha, i just move some UR points to Bonvoy a month or two back.. Timing is everything.

As for using the Chase portal, while it can offer a solid value, there are many people that prefer to transfer points than book directly in the various Portals.

Since the portals act as a 3rd party travel agent, they can be problematic if things go wrong with your travel plans. If You have a problem with your reservation, you usually have to go back to the portal, such as Chase instead of working directly with the travel provider.

I find my best use of C UR points in to use them to purchase travel through their Travel portal. Since I have CSR I get a 50% bonus on the points. That basically results in a 1/3 reduction of the price, as compared to the equivalent cash value of the same amount of points. I do check the price with the vendor directly, then look at Travel portal price, if the are the same, AND my travel plans are not likely to change. Then I booked it via Chase Portal. If my plans have a higher chance of changing, I don't book it in Chase as I get annoyed by the restrictions of rebooking back through Chase.

But otherwise, I find Chase Travel yields the best value, as far as I have calculated.

What hotels are you reserving? I cannot believe how terrible the point values have dropped with Marriott. I am still getting my value from the Marriott Brilliant. I get a hotel room worth about $400, plus the ability to use the lounge at hotels that have them, plus I do get the dining credit each month and 6X for my MF's. I do put some of our MF's on that Amex, but not all of them. I don't need $200 hotel rooms for 40,000 points. Terrible value.

A good deal only if you need some pts to top-up for a stay.

Oh, I just checked for the only nonstop from DEN to LIH for 8/5, the date we are arriving on Kauai on Alaska, and the first class, lie-flat seats are only 75K points one way, or over $1,900. Now that is a good value for my Chase UR points. But I booked Alaska with a stop months ago for a great price through the portal.

Sometimes waiting is better.
