Chase Travel gave us a deal on our first class seats on United for August to Maui, this is through the UR portal

I hope others checked to see if the discounted airfares are showing up for them. I would have no use for points, if I didn't have the UR Portal. We transfer points to Hyatt and get free hotel rooms that way. The Hyatt at SFO airport is great, so is the Hyatt Residence Club on Maui. Awesome to transfer several thousand points over and use points for that.

But airfare, I almost always use my UR points and am rarely disappointed in the flights. We had so many changes with one Delta flight that I was able to get a refund and rebooked something else on United. The flights were changing by six hours or more each time, multiple times. It was frustrating for me and we had to get to Maui sooner, not the next day.

We took part in the manufactured spend trend as long as we could do it. We would buy gift cards at Staples or Office Depot and trade them in for money orders, then deposit the money orders into our bank accounts. When the money order companies stopped allowing it, we stopped doing it, but I would bet we accumulated over 2 million points, certainly no less than that.

It was not "free" to get the points, but it was pretty inexpensive. We received 5X points at office supply stores with our Chase Ink card, then we would transfer the points to the Sapphire Reserve. This was not my idea, I read about it on some websites about building points and miles. Million Mile Secrets was the first one I read about the process. I shared it here. Rick still has 400K points in his account from when we did that. I forget he has points, but he wasn't offer this recent deal. Too bad.

My aunt was bookkeeper at a bank and thought this was a sleazy deal. I look back on it and realize maybe it was not all that honest, but it worked.

Earlier this year I bought a Delta First Class ticket from LAX-OGG for $650 one way. . .Im probably going to fly standby coming back. . but that was a smoking deal too good to pass up!
