Thinking about a spring trip to Charleston, SC. Lodging suggestions?

No specific suggestions but....
Mt. Pleasant is just over the Ravenel Bridge, with good hotel choices and restaurants. But traffic is difficult. Not sure if the water taxi to Charleston will be running in the spring but that is a great way to get into the city from there.
Our first visit to Charleston was from an Edisto Island timeshare about an hour's drive. Depending on the time you have to spend on your trip this might be a good option.
Otherwise stay in Charleston proper.

If you are a Marriott guy, accumulating Bonvoy Rewards Points as you go along, I'd recommend the Marriott hotels nearest or in the historic district.
The several favorites include:
1. the Lindy Renaissance Hotel on Wentworth Street ....easy walk to King Street for the awesome shops and nearby restaurants.
2. the Marriott Courtyard on Calhoun Street/Historic District....
3. Bella Grace Hotel on Calhoun Street....also walkable to King Street. Higher points requirement,
but it's a quirky, awesome modern hotel that will definitely give a different but fun vibe.

P.S. the regular Marriott Hotel on the water is NOT a favorite....farther from where you want to be, and it's a mediocre hotel quality-wise.

Most south of Calhoun St, Historic District, lodging is quite expensive. If you want to splurge, I'd suggest The Loutrell on State Street in the Market area. Charleston Place Hotel is also popular with visitors. If you want to come at a peak flowering time, that seems to be happening earlier and earlier each year with March being the best time.

I don't disagree with JME on his recommendations. I've had good success with the Residence Inn in West Ashley. They used to have a free shuttle to the historic district.
