Change to Redweek process and all those extra fees... And not in a good way.... [MERGED]

Will do. I listed my specific week, since it's already booked. Right now, I've got my unit listed on Redweek, KOALA, Vacation Candy, Finding Meili, as well as a realty company that has helped both myself and my father rent units in the past (they list on VRBO and others, as well).
but not TUG? :(

we show your membership expired in 2022.

We dont go in and retroactively change forum profiles. if someone paid for a membership in the past they are listed as a TUG member.

while we would hope that anyone who finds value in the site would continue to support it, its never been a requirement.

Was just surprised to see a comment of someone trying out a brand new (and more expensive) paid platform to compare to the rest, and not including TUG in comparison.

No, you're right, I had held off because in the past I hadn't had any luck posting on the marketplace. I just renewed and will repost here, as well.

I will say, having to renew the ad here every 3 months is kinda weird. Not a lot of effort, but if I somehow forget or don't get a notification, it's an issue.

an automated reminder is sent the prior week to all listings expiring so they can be extended if they have not yet sold/rented.

we would simply prefer all our listings be current/recent than simply having thousands more stale listings in the marketplace. this process ensures every resale/rental is both for a future check in date, and the member has posted/updated it within the last 90 days.

If you are not getting email notifications to your inbox, chances are they are being intercepted and put in your spam filter/folders.

Got my first hit on my 1BR OV rental for next summer at MOC... on Finding Meili. We'll see if that actually pans out, though. Also, I still have no idea how owners are paid on this site. I legit cannot find this information anywhere.

Does Finding Meili collect the payment or is it more like true DIY where you are expecting the renter to pay you via Paypal, check or some other method directly?

I listed the rental as check payment only, as they currently do not have their own payment system ready, so I assume I’ll be receiving a check at some point if it’s rented. When their site has their own payment online, I wonder if they change things and move towards what Redweek did.

Has someone actually rented from you or just inquired about a rental. With a check payment, I would expect that the renter would need to mail a check directly to you and Finding Meili isn't involved in the transaction. Pure DIY, like the TUG Marketplace. This is of course guessing and an issue I have with Finding Meili is that there is no contact information anywhere on the site with to who is actually behind it. No terms and conditions, no privacy policy.

I have only received a contact from a potential renter asking if the unit was still available, and if there were any other fees associated with it. And I agree, the lack of information on their site is an issue. Some could call it concerning, though the company behind it is large and legit.

Who is the company behind the website? A quick AI hit seems to indicate Finding Meili LLC out of Wyoming. I didn't go to check the LLC records with the WY Secretary of State, but WY is one state that allows for anonymous LLC formation. The registered address may also be that of a commercial authorized agent service. I don't know if that is truly the case here. I did find Terms & Conditions on their website when looking to sign up but it just refers to them as "Finding Meili". No mention of an LLC at all and no mention of how payment collection is to happen.

A bit off topic but I have been meaning to ask you..
When I search redweek for either a rental or purchase i am able to request notifications if any new adds come out for that resort. Would that be possible for tugg?
Just curious. Would save having to check daily and possibly miss a good opportunity.

I thought there was a way to setup alerts like on Redweek, but a quick check and I couldn't figure it out. Hopefully @TUGBrian can explain how it can be done.

Weird, I swear I read that they had a large parent company, but I wonder if I was thinking of somebody else. GO-KOALA, maybe?

As far as I know Go-Koala is a smaller, and still independent, company. Redweek certainly has a large parent company.

yes, if you add a resort to your watch list from within your dashboard you will get alerts when a new review, or listing is posted!

Yes you can set up alets on Redweek. I get them often.

Not sure if it's favorites or something else. it's been a while.
Noodle around and you will find it

So, another issue with Finding Meili - not all messages generate an e-mail alert, and I see no section on their site to configure this. I received the initial request from a potential renter, but then nothing for the next two days. Logged in today just for the hell of it, and I've got two messages from her - one telling me that she'd like to rent the unit, and another (the next day) asking if I received her message. Nice job, FM, hope it doesn't cost me a renter. Guess now I'll just have to continually check the site for new messages, which is absurd in 2025.

Is it possible that some of the emails went to junk or spam folders?

Since it seems like you had some luck on Finding Meili, NTP66, I decided it was worth a shot to post my rentals there and see what happens. I have had my rentals up on Vacation Candy, Go-Koala, and here on Tug for over a month and haven't had any inquires. None. I've never had that happen before on Redweek (before all the changes, obviously.) I'm sure it's because of all the extra fees Vacation Candy and Go-Koala are adding on top of the rental. As for Tug, I'm not sure. Maybe just not enough exposure? TugBrian, what can we do to get Tug more exposure? Is there something that we can do as members so help increase visibility? Regardless, the Finding Meili site signed me up and took my membership fee just fine but when I went to add my listings the site won't function and I can't get them to take the payment and post the listing. So frustrating!!!!

While I guess its possible to find a renter in a few short days, for me I would not rate a site a success or failure if it didnt happen in that short a timeframe. For high end rentals I honestly would not expect any site to provide a renter within a few days or weeks? though maybe im just out of touch with how many folks are out there looking for timeshare reservations like that on a regular basis?

last minute cheap/discounted rentals? sure, as I bet there are far more people who would decide to take a vacation they didnt otherwise have planned because they found a deal!

One option that can help improve visibility is posting direct links to your listings on social media/etc...plus who knows....might get a renter directly that way!

A member can post their listing using the 6 digit ad number itself at the end of this link:

tug2.com/timesharemarketplace/search?ListingId=

and it will take anyone directly to just their individual/expanded marketplace listing. (works for resales too)
