There was no fire in the actual town of Brian Head & only one cabin on the edge of town was lost. The massive fire went to the north & east of Brian Head and consumed thousands of acres of forest.
We were up there for the 4th of July weekend as our daughter has a condo in town. It appeared that Cedar Breaks Lodge was housing a lot of the firefighters. One of the employees did tell us they wouldn't be open to the public until after July 28.
OK I meant the fire was in the area. I actually started a thread here on TUG about the fire when it started because I was in the area and saw the smoke! I did NOT mean to imply that the resort had caught fire. Sorry. I was just stating that the rental is a no-go because the resort will not be open then. The OP should contact the resort about making other arrangements.
Great news! I hope someone takes advantage of this offer. It's a really nice resort and if one drives up to Brian Head through Cedar City on highway 148 they won't see any burned-out areas. It's a beautiful drive. Driving up to Brian Head through Parowan on 143 you will see the burned-out area but it goes just to the edge of the town and once you're in Brian Head there's no damage at all.
If anyone is in the area, on Saturday nights at the Cedar Breaks National Monument the park rangers present a "Star Party" at 8:30 pm. The area is designated as one of the darkest spots on earth at night and the rangers have telescopes for people to look through and see all the wonders of the night sky. Cedar Breaks is about 10 miles or so from Brian Head.
There's a lot to do in the area as it's close to Zion National Park & Bryce Canyon, and the Cedar City Shakespeare Festival is in full swing.
