And just now a relative of mine posted this on Facebook:

Finally got home late last night after starting Thursday, then several nightmare flights, couple flight cancelations, many delayed flights, flight diversion with a sleepless & painful night in a small basically closed Columbia, NC Airport with 140 passengers from my AA flight ✈️

I believe she was coming home to New York from Minnesota.

And it never ends…

Our most miserable flight... Aside from the one where we flew from Amsterdam to Newark, and Delta cancelled our last leg home (weather they claimed)...

It started out as a 45 min puddle-jumper from Jacksonville, FL, to Ft. Lauderdale. We circled over the Bahamas for 2 hours due to weather in So.Florida. Eventually, we landed in Orlando to refuel, and then when we arrived at FLL 5 hours late, we had to wait another 2 hours is a sweltering plane for an accessible gate.

Insanity. Worth driving from now on if you had to do that trip.

I just got back from my United flight coming back from Las Vegas to Newark. The flying part of the trip was great - the airports were on point with no delays, the flights boarded easily, and arrived early even waiting slightly for a gate on the way there. Both ways simply by using a restroom after arriving we ended up being among the last to pick up our checked bags. From what I can tell - direct flights or not using the "auto routed layovers" is the method for success. OTOH, my uncle for some reason didn't want to fly into Newark and claimed he needed to fly to Syracuse to use his miles a few months ago. He was stranded in Chicago for 7 hours due to weather, and ended up needing to pay for a hotel overnight in Syracuse from 2:30AM till 10 or so when someone could drive to pick him up.

My nephew and his wife were flying to Korea on American from DFW a few days ago. Four hours into the 13 hr flight they turned around and returned to DFW due to problems with the bathrooms. They had to fly out on the flight the next day. I hope they were well compensated for this fiasco.
