Here's a list & videos of catchy food jingles from the past. Brings back memories. The writer says they are jingles we love to hate, but I rather like many of them.

Many of the jingles you remember most were sung by Linda November, who lives in Sun City Anthem. She sang over 22,000 (not a misprint) jingles in her lifetime. Among them were "Nobody Doesn't Like Sara Lee," "I'd Like to Teach The World to Sing (aka "the Coke song"), and "Meow, meow, meow, meow, etc. (The Meow Mix song).

Her husband is Artie Schroeck, who arranged "My Eyes Adored You" for Frankie Valli, and also did the arranging for the show Jersey Boys. He's arranged for many other performers, and also plays the vibes. Both of them play piano, including ragtime.

Thanks Fern for telling us about Linda November. Before I read your response, I was trying to think of my favourite songs from past commercials. I could not remember the Coke song for the life of me. I am so glad that you mentioned "I'd Like to Teach The World to Sing". It was a brilliant commercial. I wish that I could remember some other ones. I did not like the selection on the link except for Oscar Mayer. Only non-food commercials come to mind right now except for Double Mint gum. "Double your pleasure, double your fun with double mint, double mint, double mint gum"

Cigarette commercial- "To a golfer, it's a hole in one, to a ...... to a smoker it's a Kent. The taste of Kent, the taste of Kent, good taste fine tobacco that's what happiness is"

Nair - "Who wears short, shorts, we wear short, shorts. If you dare wear short, shorts, Nair for short, shorts"

The only thing that comes to my mind is...

"Brusha, brusha, brusha, with the new Ipana"! :D

Dori

Not exactly food, but related: "Plop plop, fizz fizz, Oh what a relief it is".

Definately not food related...

I don't want to grow up,

I want to be a Toys R Us kid!

Ohhhh, I'd love to be an Oscar Meyer Wiener, that is what I'd truly love to be-e-e, cuz if I were an Oscar Meyer weiner, everyone would be in love with me.

. . . or the alternative:

Oh, I'd hate to be an Oscar Meyer Wiener, that is what I'd truly hate to be-e-e, cuz if I were an Oscar Meyer weiner, there would be nothing left of me.

No longer PC, I suppose.......

Hot dogs, Armour Hot Dogs
What kinds of kids eat Armour Hot Dogs?
Big kids, little kids, kids who climb on rocks
fat kids, skinny kids, even kids with chicken pox
love hot dogs, Armour Dot Dogs
The dogs kids love to bite!

Two great tastes that taste great together, Reeses peanut butter cups.

The only one I recognized in the article was the Oscar Mayer commercial. It is certainly a classic. LOL! Thank goodness I've never seen/heard any of the others. I don't need catchy jingles floating around my brain. :)

An old, old one. Remember when the only Coca Cola you could buy came in a 6 ounce bottle? Pepsi had a bigger idea.

Pepsi Cola hits the spot
12 ounce bottle that's a lot
Twice as much for a nickel too
Pepsi Cola is the drink for you

No food but who remembers this one... the little kid sick in bed..

Mother's are like that, yes they are!!

Picture the scenery full of twins and...

Remember this one? DOUBLEMINT GUM--- DOUBLES YOUR PLEASURE, DOUBLE YOUR FUN WITH DOUBLEMINT GUM!!!

Also the ad for Maxwell House coffee, GOOD TO THE LAST DROP.

frenchieinme :hi:

Not a jingle, but my favorite food ad as a kid was "Wednesday is Prince Spaghetti Day." -- Anthony, the little kid, running through the North End of Boston to get home in time for pasta.

Fast food burger commercials:

McDonald's Big Mac: "Two all beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions on a sesame seed bun." This jingle first introduced in mid 1970's and repeated over-and-over so that it stuck firmly in our brains. Re-introduced in the past few years in a "speed test" format.

Burger King's response: "Hold the pickles, hold the lettuce, special orders don't upset us; all we ask is that you let us SERVE IT YOUR WAY! Have it yo--ur way ... at Burger King, have it yo--ur way, at Burger King!"

"If it says Libbies, Libbies, Libbies on the label, label, label ... you will like it, like it, like it on your table, table, table."

LOL! Loved it ... sang my way through your post!

Here's a few that stuck on me...

"Ooey gooey, rich and chewy inside.
Golden cakey, tender flakey outside.
Wrap the inside in the outside. Is it good? Darn tootin'!
It's the big, Fig Newton!"

"Everything's better with Blue Bonnet on it"

"Wouldn't ya like to be a pepper too, Dr. Pepper"

"I am stuck on Band-aid, cause Band-aid stuck on me."

Gee, thanks. Now I've got a dozen jingles bouncing around inside my head and I can't get them to stop!!!
