I had the first eye done today, went with the extra lens. Can't see much right now, I am supposed to sleep today - I have never slept after anesthesia, not even after major surgery , I am sneaking a few minutes on computer because I am not supposed to read. i feel okay, don't remember the surgery, just hope it worked.

I had both eyes done and two weeks later i have 20/20 vision. I do have the screen enlarged on the computer, but read books and the newspaper with no problem. Do have rather large halos and it would be dangerous to drive after dark. I did drive to doctor's office the day after the first surgery and then went and played bridge with no glasses.

Well, I have now had both eyes done and am pretty disappointed with the results. I had the toric astigmatism lens put in first, for distance. The first day I saw great and decided to just go with good distance vision and get the other eye the one paid for by insurance with a distance focus. (It's also the day I saw Sloane Gardens on SFX sell off list and spontaneously decided we should go to London). The next time I saw the doctor the vision had dropped to 20/30. It continued to drop, I now longer felt safe driving. I had the other eye done and it seems fine, but my right eye has no correction that I can tell for distance, tested 20/50 yesterday. The doctor said I had a long eye cavity or something and his standard formula for distance obviously hadn't worked. He suggested additional Lasix, which I can do for $700, after springing for one of the expensive lens. In the meantime, I am going to get glasses for evening out my brain's exhaustion from these 2 different visons.

I wish I was like the OP who mentioned one for near and one for far. It's not what I asked for, but it is what I got. Unfortunately, I had always read with my glasses off, using my left eye, and now it's reversed so my right has good close vision and my left could distance. Pirate patches anyone?

here is my sob story.
three weeks ago I awoke with sharp, severe pains in my eye, totally bloodshot, like something was in my eye, and blurred vision.. went to doctor who did cataract surgery, she said my cornea was all scratched up. gave me a cream, had me come back the following Monday, that night the npain was so bad that I started vomiting. the following monday, the pain was better, but vision was worse. more medications and a plan to do laser surgery in two weeks. after a week of no improvement, i went back to see her. this time she saw swelling behind the macula. I spent one week scared out of my mind. went to specialist today, macular edema (thank god not macular degeration). retina specilist says this happens to some people after cataract surgery. then why didn't the original doctor recognize it for what it was. I got shots in the eye today but he says it will take 8 to ten weeks to clear up. i go back for more tests and shots in 6 weeks.

The eye doctors make it sound like cataract surgery is routine and a no brainer. I'm not so sure it is!

Wow! What an 'eye opener'! I- who has the beginnings of cataracts- had thought of it as routine no-sweat outpatient in-the-office procedure these days. Me- the guy who had Lasik and is still using bifocals thanks you for the due-diligence talk.

Get well soon! keep us posted.
