How many times can you extend the hotel portion of the package? I have already extended once until 6/07 but unfortunately other travel plans make it impossible to use the whole week. Any suggestions other than using short stays or donating to charity?
thanks

Call Marriott and try to extend again. I've been told by reps and by sales that you can renew more than once. I would wait until just before it expires because they new expiration will be one year from the time of renewel.

You can cancel just the hotel portion of the package and get the pro rated # of points returned to your rewards account

Most recent info from FlyerTalk:

Nothing definitive as of yet....

An important note is, if intending to extend, be sure to do it as close to the original expiration date as possible. IIUC, the extension is one year from date of request, not expiration date of original cert. Happy to be wrong :)

Very true, however, we have used e-certs about two to three years and we extended a cert last January (2006). So they may not have taken this away.

Having said this, if you get a rep that says no, call back at another time and try a different rep. It happens, some won't, most will.

Let me add my two cents worth ...

I had a Cat 6 cert that was due to expire last March. I called about six months ahead and was advised to call back just before the expiration. I called back about a week before the date and had it extended - no problem. I also asked about the possibility of a further extension later. The Marriott rep said tha they PROBABLY would do it a second time but no guarentee and none beyond that.

Probably (as was posted earlier) if the rep you get says "No", call back later, the next rep is just as likely to say "Yes."

We'll see.

The FlyerTalk thread I referenced above also covers the nuance of a Marriott changing categories during this whole process and how it affects already issued certs not attached to a reservation. I had the somewhat rare combination of the hotel changing categories and the need for a cert extension; sort of a confluence of variables with no published policies anywhere. It it wasn't for my habit of making rolling reservations 50 weeks out, I would've had more problems ;)
