It's happening now. Friends that live in PV said they can see fires and heard guns. It sounds like El Mencho was killed. I heard the airport is either shut down or on alert.

Here is one clip.

I'm not sure who was killed or captured.
Nemesio “El Mencho” Oseguera Cervantes, head of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel , was killed during a raid by Federal forces. I also heard that the Puerto Vallarta airport is currently closed.

We have friends that were at the Cathedral when this broke out. On Facebook they said the Cathedral doors were shut , Mass continued, by the time Mass ended it was quiet so they walked home.

My wife has messaged our friends and she says it seems to be over.

So it's definitely on again. Costco may be on fire. There are definitely many cars at Costco on fire. A taxi driver taking tourist to the airport was killed , his passengers robbed and the taxi burnt.

I also read the violence has spread to other areas of Mexico.

Bill, isn't this the same cartel that is running that timeshare resort scam?

It is the same as the recently sanctioned one for timeshare scams. Also the largest fentanyl importer to the U.S.

I am at the Vidanta Grand Luxxe in Nuevo Vallarta. We cannot walk on the beach or leave the resort, so on lock-down.

The employees that were here this morning cannot leave and others cannot come in. Since everyone was here today, the pool waitstaff was running ragged, but cheerful. The small grocery is nearly empty. Quite a few restaurants tend to close at 5, so those employees will have to help with the ones that are open late.

All the staff has been amazing. We only have one or two people at the front desk of our building and no concierge on each floor - they are all helping wherever needed at the resort.

We feel safe and the weather is awesome.

I’m on a cruise ship off the Mexico coast. We’re supposed to pull into PV in a few days. I doubt they’ll do that. Hope everyone can stay safe.

Yup.

It looks like anywhere Hawaii is back on for winter 2027.

My sympathy with the tourists stranded in Mexico. Reminds me of 3 years ago when el Chapo Guzman's kid got offed in Sinaloa. My wife had broken her arm and had surgery there. We were evacuated by ambulance late at night while in lock down. It was a bit harrying. US Consulate couldn't bring in a plane. Airport closed, nobody coming in nor flying out. We got into a penthouse in our fav resort.

I called RCI to cancel my March 1st check-in and they are restoring the TPUs to my account and state they will credit my exchange fee back to my account. I already see the TPUs back but not the exchange fee credit. There is a code for "riots" that applies in their system.

Scary situation in Mexico. We even got a warning here in Belize on our cellphones (we have Belize sim cards) last evening. (see below) The Yucatan area which borders Belize (& is 10 miles from where we are) is safer than the rest of Mexico. Many airlines, Canadian and American and probably others, have stopped flying into that area of Mexico. Some flights were turned around mid flight. We have friends at home (ON) leaving Thursday for a week at an AI south of Cancun and so far their airline and their resort are saying no problems, come on down.

@pittle - we are at the PV Mayan Palace & our experience mirrored yours.[ except we could go to the beach] Wonderful Staff and everyone pitching in .
The Joy Squad guy was taking orders at the pool. Only the 7am shift made it to work yesterday because all public transportation was shut down by the authorities.
The staff already onsite slept here last night [ I think in the hurricane shelter]

We were supposed to spend this week in Guadelajara area at AirBnB's and were booked on the 12:20 bus. We have cancelled.
The front desk did tell be that the linen / towel truck cannot run today [It goes back & forth to the Nuevo daily]
Schools are closed today.

Our balcony faces the Marina. Yesterday about 9 am we saw one fire [ in the distance / perhaps 3 miles inland ]
when we saw 3 more we started checking the news.
Today [so far] we have not seen a cab on Paseo del la Marina. We have seen a few cars and people walking.

The Mexican Authorities are in charge and want to maintain security

One of our friends had sold their home in the US and has been building and flipping condos in La Paz. They say nothing is happening in La Paz and they think nothing is happening in Cabo as far as they know.

Some of my fondest vacation memories were in Puerto Vallarta. My destination of choice after completing Spanish language courses in Spanish language course supercity Cuernavaca.

The Mexican people are among the nicest people on earth. Intelligent, kind, caring, hard workers, great parents, etc. They're proud about never having participated in foreign wars (wish everyone took pride in something like that). I can't say anything bad about any Mexican that I've ever met.

Yet, their lives are oftentimes nowadays made miserable, perhaps even unlivable, by the cartels. And how do the cartels become so wealthy, so powerful? American consumers having an insatiable lust for their drugs.

I hate American drug abusers with a passion. Good thing I'm not a judge.

And now the lust to lose money in a timeshare scam.

thats gonna put a damper on spring break trips!
Not that that should be important at all at the moment. Same thing happened to Cuba with the only difference being it was caused my an outside source and the Cuban economy if more dependent on tourism.
