Being across from the beach might be chilly in December, but you could enjoy some beachcomber walks. We like that it's very close to the Poinsettia rail station, there is a walkway from the neighborhood next to the resort. You can catch the coaster to San Diego, Old Town is a nice day visit for shopping and lunch at Old Town Mexican Cafe.

ah, now that i'm on my computer i see that seaside is an external exchange resort. some of the reviews make it sound a little dated. perhaps that's why the construction. maybe we'll stick with the tried and true marbrisa.

We haven’t stayed anywhere other than Marbrisa, though have looked elsewhere. Like Marbrisa, but can’t tell you how many times the people above us must have literally been rolling bowling balls around they were so loud. We always ask for top floor now to avoid that.

Oh, and building 80 if it’s available

i did notice certain bookings are guaranteed building 80. what's special about building 80?

We travel as family. The 3 bedroom units in Building 80 are amazing. (And if you get lucky, they will also let you reserve a golf cart to move around the resort which is nice).

Underground parking as well.

A nice more secluded hot tub and grilling space.

I guess it is just a little more removed from everything else which is nice (for us, anyway)

80 is a recent addition above the original GP Marbrisa buildings, it's the furthest from the Cove pools on the southeast edge of the property.

Hi Chris,
Marbrisa will let you reserve a golf cart for your stay? Do they charge?

I'm not exactly sure how this was done - they don't have an abundance of carts, 1 or 2 I think, and only for certain room bookings.

As I understand it: These are for people in the large 3 bedroom units in building 80 and can be requested at the time of booking. We've gotten it exactly once, and that was good fun to drive between building 80 and the Cove and the other buildings around the complex.

There was no charge for the cart.

Hope this helps!

Seapointe has been under a MAJOR construction program, and I can assure you it is in no way "outdated". We've owned since it opened, and just returned from a week there. The ocean front properties suffer from the salt air and moisture, but this update has been impressive. There are two buildings ( actually half of one, and then a smaller one ) to complete which will take place October to March.

The first photo shows the front with the new balconies, exterior and paint. The second one is of one of the courtyards. The other is nearing completion. The new planting will take hold through the winter and be beautiful in the spring. Nothing about the current condition of this property, inside or out, would be considered "dated".

Thanks for posting this! Now I need to go look into this as a possible alternative to Marbrisa for our regular San Diego visits

We have visited Marbrisa and it is a very nice site, and we did enjoy the pool there. The rooms also look very nice, and there is dining next door. I'm sure a stay there would be comfortable, but you would need to drive to any location you might want to visit. It's not a bad drive, but they are "off the beaten path".

Seapointe is a smaller footprint, and doesn't have dining spots ( unless you are a walker ) right there. One thing we like is that it's a short, direct, walk to the Coaster which you can take North or South. You could even take it to Oceanside, and then transfer to MetroLink for Orange and Los Angeles county locations, or south to other beach towns and San Diego. We often use that for the ocean views and relaxing commute to some of our favorite destinations.

Seapointe is also great if you want to be close to the beach. It is right across the street. Also, the staff there is very personable. Another relaxing choice is Carlsbad Inn. Because it is in the center of town, there is a lot to do, and the beach there is deep and beautiful. If you like independent diners, they are abundant in town, all within a few blocks of the Inn. Wednesday afternoon State Street has the local farmers market which is fun and tasty.
