Car rentals, weekly gone up?

Going down to MB in a few weeks. Last year through Costco/Alamo mid size it was $140.00 This year it is $200.00+

Not horrible, just a bit more than hoped. Maybe using wrong codes, just wondering with so many changes in the economics, is this true for most?

Oh well, if that is what it is, still be glad to get away, and visit a beach area.
 
I'll be in MB starting next Sunday. I have an Avis rental (always get good codes through flyertalk). I checked back yesterday and saved another $18 by modifying the reservation. I did not use a special code but I am Avis Preferred. I'm getting a full size car for $226.31 including all fees but NOT including the $30 discount coupon available on their site. Check it out!
 
Rates are up in Europe, but a big part of that is the decline of the US dollar.
 
I've been checking car rental rates in Orlando for November. It seemed to me that rates there used to be cheap but now I think they're on the high side.

I'll just play the game I played for my recent vacation - kept changing reservations as the rates went down.

I was shocked at how expensive MCO was for the week between Christmas and New Years. I finally locked in a $250 rate for a week through carrentals.com. I con't to look for better rates and right now they are sky high (over $500 for a midsize).

Same deal with PHX in March, although they did drop to right at $200 for a week, also through carrentals.com, down from $230 . . . but initially I was looking at $350 for a midsize.
 
erm - where on flyertalk do you access car rentals? I'm not finding any info there.

The rate I mentioned in my post was from the RCI site. Have tried both AARP and AAA, so think I'll see what Orbitz comes up with then do some more searching for codes around. I also have an Avis wizard #.

I have found the lowest rates for my latest search on hotwire.com. I also look at priceline.com. One technique that I've used in the past is the get the lowest price on hotwire and then bid lower using the bidding feature on priceline. The problem with that method is that you have to pay upfront and if prices go down, you're stuck. And you can't select your car company, if that matters to you.
