I just posted a thread about airline flights-Is there a best time of the week to buy tickets? What about car rentals? I'm thinking they probably don't change. Am I correct? Thanks. :)

I rented a car from Enterprise, very reasonable, in Edinburgh. One month later I thought about upgrading, went back on line and the prices had skyrocketed. obviously,I did not upgrade. I know I didn't book during a sale or promo. It was the first time I thought rental prices may in fact change

Car prices definitely do changes in real-time. I have seen them change on-line between the time I first loaded a page and when a reloaded it a few minutes later. This is expecially noticable on site where they show you the rates in price order.

They change, both up and down, hugely. I always book at a price that is acceptable to me and keep checking right up until a day or so before we're leaving. It costs nothing to cancel, so you lose nothing by booking and continuing to check.

Rental car rates fluctuate based on availability. We booked our January Orlando vehicle for three weeks for $600 before at least the last hurricane, maybe more.

Because of hurricane damage to the Florida fleet, that same rental went up to $1300 the last time I checked.

We paid the $600.
