Car rental on Aruba

We have an exchange into Aruba for this August and would like to know that best company for renting a car for the week.

Hans with Tropic is your best source. We have used him many times with great success.

Always had a good experience with them too. We did have a problem with the car last year, and they immediately came to the SC with a replacement car and were very apologetic.

We have only rented from Hans at Tropic for over 15 years, and would only use him. Responsible, fair rates and a great guy!
 
What makes it better to rent from these vendors vs Budget or any other corporate brand? I just checked my rates and Budget is much less expensive.

Super and Wheels to Go have been excellent. Usually the "name brand" rental companies are a lot more expensive and have very poor customer service. Lots of complaints.
 
Believe it or not over the past 5 years we've been renting from Budget quite happily and we're paying the same rates . We used to rent from the "locals" but had a couple of bad experiences including in one case where a "scratch" was noticed on a fully dented and scratched up car which they said wasn't there prior. When dh went into the office they had a huge stack of similar claims for Amex, and we advised Amex of what was clearly a scam( and dh was savvy enough to have taken photos of the car before and after). It wasn't a huge amount they were claiming but with the stack dh saw it sure would have added up. Amex refused to pay and the car co. quickly dropped their claim in the face of the photo evidence

I realize that the "name brands" are still local franchises but at least one has someone to contact when this nonsense happens as it seems to with so many car rental co's of late.
