Car rental in Phoenix. Fox is cheapest, or do I go with a BIGGER brand?

In November, I will rent a car in Phoenix for two weeks.

Consistently Fox comes up as cheapest. (Sixt, and other 'small' companies are next cheapest)

I have always rented from one of the BIGger companies....and feel more comfortable doing that.

IF you had a choice between Fox for $570 or a bigger company for $800....which would YOU choose?

I have months to secure/change/rebook, etc.....just getting the ball rolling, thanks.

I have heard bad things about Fox, although I have never used them. They are often the cheapest option, however I always go with one of the bigger companies since I have experience with them.

Is the $570 for 2 weeks? That's really cheap, my look at National is that per week basically. IDK about if the car rental is sketchy, I'd probably add on Loss Damage Waiver in that case, especially if it's so much cheaper it might still be an overall savings.

Is $230 over 2 weeks worth the concern to you? Is Fox on site? Most of these ultra cheap rentals come at a cost ( time mostly and some hassle at worst). At the end of the day, I personally, don't want to stand in line at some off-brand rental on my vacation and my strategy is to build up some loyalty with one brand, become a member and go straight to my car.

But just recommend the thinking of trade-offs. It might be worth it for you to pick the cheaper rental - or it might not if you consider other options that will last over travel years.

I have used FOX three times so far. Two times were great and they gave us a nice vehicle at the lowest price by far. We oft times book thru Priceline who we find best for rental cars. One time we rented with FOX for Denver airport pickup. We did not pre pay. There was a three hour wait so that was a no go. We usually make two bookings wherever we fly and do not pre pay, and in that way if there is a really long wait at one we just go to the other. We like FOX overall and can say they are fine.

Consider an off-airport rental pickup since PHX adds a huge tax to rentals picked up from there. We used to fly into Phoenix regularly due to our daughter playing college softball there, and we would often rent from Avis or Budget at an off-airport location. It was a cheap (<$15) Uber ride there, and it could save hundreds on the rental. The best part is that you can still return the car to the PHX Rental Car Center with no surcharge.

My son was not pleased with Fox In Phx. When he got to the counter, only had an electric car unless he upgraded for a gas car, which he did.

Have rented twice with FOX in Las Vegas and Salt Lake city and never again. Long waits, broken car after waiting over an hour, dirty car, no fluids, bald tires etc. I usually go for the cheapest but will never rent from them.

I rented with Fox in PHX and DFW. No difference compared to the major brands, other than long lines at pickup.

For a two-week rental, I'd compare more than just the headline price. A cheaper rate can still be a good deal if the reviews, deposit policy, and total fees look reasonable. On the other hand, paying an extra $230 is only worth it if you're getting noticeably better service or flexibility.

Rather than choosing based on the brand alone, I'd compare a few providers side by side. That makes it easier to decide whether the savings with Fox are actually worth it.

I have rented with Fox in SLC and LAS and never again. I do not care how much cheaper they are. Long lines, long waits for the shuttle, dirty cars or cars that need maintenance.

This is one I won't try. Additional insurance may be required and they have no back up if something happens to the car or they cancel the reservation. I also wonder who is paying for all of the television ads I've started seeing for them.

I have had poor experience with FOX. High pressure sales on extra insurance. You mentioned the price with SIXT is on slightly more. Book with SIXT. I have rented with them a number of times, and they have been nothing but excellent. SIXT is huge in Europe.
