I have a capital one cc with air miles and would like to use some of them. How does it work??? Please give me the low down.

Thanks Don

There should be a member services phone number or you can do it online. That is the card we use and we cash them in at least once per year.

Here is a summary for using miles for airline tickets.

Miles Redemption, for example:
15,000: Saver (tickets up to $150)
35,000: Standard (tickets from $150.01 to $350)
60,000: Super (tickets from $350.01 to $600)
100x the ticket price: Unlimited (tickets more than $600)

You can also call 800-228-3001 with questions.

Because of that terrible point conversion rate for tickets, I have found it best to just get the money in cash (or against my current balance) and use the money to buy a ticket. If an airline ticket costs $400, why use 60,000 points when I can convert 60k points into $600??

That's exactly how I feel!

We have a Capital One card that gives us two points per dollar spent. I will use 60,000 points for a ticket to Mexico that costs about $600. I believe that I can just make the reservation and they will give me the $600 credit on my credit card. We have just switched from MBNA (Bank of America) travel rewards. On that card, I only earned one mile per dollar, so Capital One is actually a better deal for me. I do pay $39 a year for this card, but at the rate we accrue points by charging everything and paying off in full each month, we should do better with this credit card.

I'm getting mailings from Capital One that offer "2 miles for each $1" and there is no annual fee. I suggest you contact Capital One and request that they stop the annual charge. They will because they want your business.

How do you make a capital 1?

LOL

I agree that their rates stink, and they changed after we signed up for the card. The $150 for one fare is after airline fees are added, so it is pretty tough to find. We did luck out and find very cheap flights to Tampa, so were able to get 4 tickets free. I refuse to spend 35,000 points for one flight. In some cases, the cash back bonus from Discover makes more sense. Haven't kept track, but I know it has been enough to pay for a plane ticket straight up every so often.

I also received a no annual fee and "2 miles for each $1" offer but I believe the "2 miles for each $1" offer is only good for grocery and gas purchase...and these are only a small portion of my credit card spending.

Capital One No Hassle Miles Ultra
Is there a site where I can read about the details....sounds good / almost too good!

I have Capital One No Hassle Miles too

I just got the card last year and they sent me a letter saying I could get the $550 check or an airline ticket. I, too, opted for the check, cashed it, and bought an airline ticket to Florida with money left over! Much better deal to take the cash!

You know what makes this even better? When our flight was overbooked, we gave up our seats on that flight and took an alternate flight, in first class, 2 hours later, and they gave us a $400 voucher for more free travel!

I love this country!! :cheer:

Capital One has the best deal in converting foreign currency. Unlike most everyone who charges a junk fee of 3% to convert foreign, charges no fee at all.

It is the best card to travel out of the country!!

Just go to Capital One's home page. What led me to this particular card is if you ask them what's the best card for you. You fill in some basic info, and then this card pops up.

I do have the Capitol One no hassle Ultra for professionals but there is a $39 fee....even the website only shows the card with the fee....no problem, I will soon have a $600 ticket to Mexico, earned in a very short time (thanks to some home improvements). Next award will take a little longer:) .

Their web-site shows a $39 annual fee but when I asked which card is best suited for me, I was offered the no fee version of the same card.
