Hi Everyone, We're driving from Pittsburgh to this resort in West Falmouth on the Cape, checking in October 7. We'll be stopping 2 to 3 hours out the day before to break up the drive. Any reco's for where to stay? Cute down in Connecticut? Rhode Island?
Also, what should we not miss for the week we're there? Restaurants? Antiquing? Art Galleries? Sightseeing?

Thanks in advance. We've not been there in 30 years! Really looking forward to it!

And if you want to enhance your trip, check out this classic, much beloved movie Mystic Pizza. One of my all-time favorites, and yes, about Mystic CT. This was Julia Robert's breakthrough movie and a sweet movie in its own right. In fact, worth a look if you love movies and are not even traveling through Mystic :).

Make sure you get a unit with a kitchen or you will be spending a fortune eating out all the time!

We have a one bedroom unit. It doesn't have a stove/oven so grilling and microwaving. But we will eat out hopefully fresh seafood!

I booked a cute Airbnb in Stonington, Ct for one night and then I'm thinking Newport or Watch Hill area for a second night before we check in. What do you think?

Why not ? Stonington, Newport, Watch Hill - places I never go. Mystic is good as well as other shore towns. You virtually can't get any further away from Cape Cod than I am in Connecticut but you will have a relatively short drive to the cape. Take a ride to Clancy's in the Hyannis- Dennisport area if you want the best fish & chips. Woods Hole might be a choice to visit for a few hours and it's not far from Falmouth.

It sounds like you have decided more on an overnight than just a stop along the way. I was going to suggest Newport originally, but thought it would be too much for a quick stop. Now that you are going to overnight, then YES great option!

Jamestown, Rhode Island is on opposite side of Newport. We stayed at Bay Voyage Inn years ago. Nice place and we enjoyed the village of Jamestown too!

I would love a week in Falmouth. I would not want to leave! The downtown is cute with independent stores, good restaurants, and not far from the Knob which is a scenic walk out in the harbor. Shining Sea is a lovely bike trail, you can ride bikes to Woods Hole and take the ferry to Martha's Vineyard for the day. Lots of parks, bird sanctuaries and not far from several beaches. Enjoy...

Following up on our trip. Thank you for all your suggestions. First of all, I'm an idiot. Our timeshare was in W. Yarmouth, not Falmouth!! We never got to Falmouth. We enjoyed the drive across PA as the leaves were changing. We made it to Mystic for the first night and explored it the next day. We adored Mystic. The Airbnb we stayed at had a nautical theme. Our room was the Nautical Quiet Peaceful bedchamber which I would do again in a heart beat. The next night we stayed at an old hotel in Newport and it was ok and ridiculously expensive. I was disappointed in how crazy busy Newport has become. We drove through Watch Hill which I visited 40 years ago and boy has that changed. Then on day 3 we arrived in Cape Cod for a week. We took a day ferry to Nantucket which i'd not been to for 30 years and used to go there every summer when I was single. We had gorgeous weather and explored a different town every day. We typically go to Hilton Head in the fall but this was a nice change of pace. I'd do it again in a heartbeat.
