We exchanged our Royal Islander Oct for January this year. Weather was horrible...COLD. We have been in July (hot), Aug (really hot) and Oct (great, but hurricane weather)...and now think we will try March.

Could someone who has been in March let me know if the weather is typically good at that time of year. While there in January a few locals told us that February is one of the worse months for weather:(

I've only been to Riviera Maya twice in the beginning of March. In 3/08, the weather was perfect all the way around. This year, the first few days were quite windy and partly cloudy; it was actually chilly at times on the beach if the sun went in. The second half of the week was sunnier, warmer and not as windy but still pretty chilly at nights. In 2009 I was there in January and the weather was about the same as this past trip. It is my understanding that this winter has been unusually cold and rainy in this area.

We haven't been in March but have been there 3 different years in April for 2 weeks at a stretch. The first time was in early April and we found it to be too cool most days to go swimming. Last year, we went in late April and we still had some cool days.

We go every year in late April and in October/November, and sometimes in August.

I agree, August - really hot, almot unbearable with the high humidity.
October/November - rainy, cloudy, maybe hurricanes, but can be nice.
April - usually dry, maybe a thunderstorm during the evening, but rarely during the day. Most years, it is very nice weather (high 80s, low 90s), but we have been there a couple of times when it was darn right chilly. April also has a chance of sea lice in the ocean.

Hope this helps!

I've gone in October/Sept. Loved it then.

I forgot to mention that we also went there in October, 2005 for 2 weeks. A big tropical storm hit during our second week so we couldn't do anything. We got out of there just before the big hurricane hit. We decided we would never go back during hurricane season. The next year we went to Nuevo Vallarta for 2 weeks in mid-April and the weather was consistently perfect.

We went in mid-March 9 years ago and the weather was great. IIRC, there may have been morning rain a couple of days, but we were at the pool/beach every day.

To put this into perspective, it depends on what one's definition of hot and cold are. We are warm weather folks and like the heat as long as it is not humid or brutally hot. On the other hand, some folks are happy with 65 degrees.

We've been in March, June, July, December, and January, and have been happy each time. It may be a little cooler in December and January, but the sun warms up the pools and the ocean is fine too. In June and July we alternate between shade and water.

There is no way that we would go during any of those months.

March is college spring break (various weeks). Not sure you would want to go then as Cancun is a popular destination.

We went this year, March 5-12 and the weather was great for us! Temperatures were in the high 70's and low 80's. Spring break was just starting to come in as we were leaving. Highly recommend this time of year. Just a note that we were at the Grand Mayan Riviera Maya and so it could be different in Cancun, don't know?

Been going for week 11 in March for over 30 years. I think I can count the total number of days with rain on my fingers and toes.

Just got back from Cancun yesterday - 7 days of glorious sunshine. Highs in the low to mid 80's, lows in the 60's. Not a drop of rain.

It was fairly windy, though. One of the days it felt like Aruba - too windy to be on the beach.

The other 6 days were perfect...

we went Feb 28th to march 6th of this year and the weather was 80 to 85 with no rain, it was GREAT!! a bit windy on the beach but ill take it any time.

Just got back from week 15 at the Sands. For the past 17 yrs, we've been going down in Mid-late April and usually the weather is wonderful. Some on and off cloudy days-but overall very warm and sunny. This past week was the worst weather we've encountered. :( Non-stop thunderstorms and high winds for 3 days straight. It was warmer here in MI than Cancun-go figure!
Of course it's cold again here for our homecoming. Dreaming of next year already.
