TUGgers,

I've been asked a question in a PM that I don't know the answer too, and I hope a TUGger does.

If someone books a 7 day reservation 12 months out, and then cancels a couple days at the end of the reservation a few months later, do they get the points back in full (assume outside of 60 days from check-in).

I would assume so, but don't know for sure. This is for someone who can't make partial week reservations until 10 months out.

Please advise and thanks!

Greg

I had to change a reservation and got the points back, however what they did was cancel this first and the book the second.
So you have to be careful that reservation exists.

I believe the documents do say if you cancel/change to days that would not have been allowed at the time of original reservation, then Thr points are in the holding account. It makes sense as otherwise everyone could make partial week reservations at the 12 month mark and then just cancel the days they don't want. The documents are vague but I read it that way.

They get back the points but they sit in the holding account. There are two potential ways to avoid this.

First one, if you cancel the entire reservation and book another one for the fewer days then no holding account issue. Risk here is that someone on the waiting list or someone else snags it before second one is booked.

Second one, you could potentially use the puck trick to avoid. At the new time, see if you can book a hold reservation for less nights, cancel the old one and then once the points are released book the new ones. No points then end up in the holding account.

Hope this helps.
