Cancel and rebook reservation

Just remember that every time you make a reservation it will take a Reservation Transaction. If you have unlimited, or enough of them, it doesn't matter. Some folks may wonder why they suddenly get hit with a $19 fee though.
The transaction fee is absorbed if you can book at a points discounted rate.

Cancelling a unit with ANY expectation that the same reservation will be available to you is just not likely going to happen. Possible yes, but Probable No.

For reservations I need I do follow the book (during SRP), book (ERP discount window), then cancel the original booking. I do not cancel unless I have replacement inventory booked. You just can't rely on that happening on any schedule if at all. So I don't chance it.
From my tests book book cancel I got 1 instant upgrade ( 1BR to 2 BD), I got 50% discount (no upgrade available) on my second reservation. And I can’t get any discount on my third reservation, but I’m still checking it someone might cancel the last minutes.
It depends on the demands of the resorts and sizes I think.

100% correct. It's all about demand and availability at the resort.

The difference between now and the old cancel/rebook is that cancel/rebook did not depend on availability at the resort. You made your own availability with the canceled reservation, which typically re-appeared in inventory anywhere from 20 seconds to two minutes after it was canceled. The length of the delay changed from time to time but after a change, it would be stable for a prolonged period. (I remember my panic when a canceled 4BR Pres at Bonnet Creek didn't show up after the 20 seconds I was used to -- and my relief when it showed up after two minutes.)

Few months I had 2 reservations that I canceled and rebooked and I couldn’t get them back. I h assessment been checking for an hour and nothing came back. One of them was at the Waikiki and other was at the Oceanside. Luckily we hadn’t bought plane tickets to Hawaii at that time.

This makes sense, because the change to the old cancel/rebook (in which one makes one’s own availability through canceling) changed over 3 years ago.

You need to figure that you will never see a canceled reservation again.

Yes never cancel until you see the inventory and book before cancel. I wish there is a system that it can alert you when there is a discount available. Wishful thinking Right haha

I set a reminder on my smart phone for the 60-day point, when discounts open up, and the 45-day point, when instant upgrades are available for VIPG, then go and check the availability. If there is availability and it's at the 60-day point or later, there are discounts available for any VIP. Instant upgrades work similarly at the 45-day point for me - timing is different for different VIP levels, of course. In my experience, the automatic upgrades at that point are the ones that are iffy - instant upgrades depend only on the availability at the base level you reserve and the upgrade level that you want - upgrade path dependent, of course.

My best guess is that for the third reservation you were not within 60 days of the check in date yet. Either that or you saw that there wasn't availability and didn't cancel the original reservation, which is wise.

Note that the 60-day point is actually two months. Wyndham "normalized" the calendar some time ago. In this case, "normalized" means "made abnormal."

I was within 60 days but they do not have 2 BR unit I want so I keep my original reservation and still keep checking

I've been playing, book book cancel since August for our 6 months snowbird venture in Florida this year. This morning I booked up to February 13th at half points and cancelled the full points reservation. I do this every year. I can't remember the last time I checked in on a full points reservation. Availability is almost a guarantee within 60 days during winter months in Florida. The key is flexibility.

It also depends on where in Florida you want to go. South Florida won't show much of anything except Palm-Aire. Much better luck in Orlando and Panhandle resorts.

I played Wyndham Panama City Beach last winter booking Studio Lower Level units, taking the 50% (now 60%) discount and upgrading to 2BR Presidential units. I booked a lot more reservations than I rented -- the Panhandle in the dead of winter isn't the most popular place around plus a lot of people were still reluctant to step out. It seems there is less availability for January-February 2022 than in 2021.

There are limited general last-minute discounts available to non-VIP owners, but I'd guess in 10+ years of owning I've only canceled and rebooked once or twice to get one.

The last-minute discounts are a good opportunity to use resale points. A 35% discount isn't as good as 60% but it's better than full price.

Just curious: Where can you find 60%discount ? I have never seen it.

It's called Worldmark.
