Big impact on Alaskan cruises that start/end in Vancouver.

And advises Canadians to return home immediately.

These ships might have come empty anyway / better to reschedule

This will put the kibosh on Alaska cruises. In order to avoid US wage-an-hour laws, cruise ships MUST include a stop or originate/terminate at a non-US port. If they are totally stopping in only US ports, they have to pay crews overtime after 8 hours per day or 40 hours a week. Look for huge price increases or elimination of Alaska cruises until the Canadian ports welcome the ships again.

Another nail in the coffin of cruise lines.

From www.alaskapublic.org --
Canada has closed its ports to large cruise ships until July 1 in response to the spread of coronavirus. The restriction applies to vessels carrying 500 people or more. This will have a direct effect on Alaska cruise itineraries... “A foreign-flag vessel must stop in a foreign country,” said Joe Geldhof, a Juneau attorney with experience of the cruise industry. “If Vancouver and Victoria [ports] are closed, foreign flag cruise ships are going to have an enormous problem with participating in the Alaska trade.” At least 30 cruise ships and hundreds of port calls across the state will be affected.

From Holland-America.com
Transport Canada has suspended the cruise season across Canada until July 1, 2020. We will be evaluating our Alaska and Canada & New England cruises scheduled within this time frame and when more information is available we will share it. Guests booked on these cruises in May and June are kindly asked to not call our reservations center for more information as we do not have it at this time.

This kills our May sailing from Boston to Montreal.
Delta is not yet waiving change fees for May. <sigh>

Our cruise to Alaska in August is looking less and less likely. We'll have to find some other way to celebrate our 50th anniversary.
