So why wouldn't I book with my developer points first, get my free housekeeping and transaction, and then add on with my resale points? If you book a hybrid developer resale, you will have to use the resale reservation and the resale housekeeping you have. If you are out you will have to pay.
If you combine them you will lose all of the developer point perks you receive, like unlimited transactions and unlimited Housekeeping (if you have those).
I saw a FB post that if you booked with resale/retail points you would probably pay housekeeping fees. @HitchHiker71, can you confirm? I hope that isn't the design. If my housekeeping is free, because I used developer points for some of my reservation and I'm not going to move rooms, why would I have to pay housekeeping on the reservation?
Thanks for the followup. My approach is similar to yours, with a touch of get rid of resale altogether. And really it just isn't that big a deal to me, it will happen once a year, right? Just another Wyndham squeeze in my books.Sorry for the delay in response - we were away in the Poconos (Wyndham Shawnee on Delaware) this weekend and I tried my best to disconnect.
@Sandy VDH already provided the requested guidance - long story short - can you only borrow points from your developer points bucket when initially selecting your resale points bucket. Whenever this is done - any/all VIP developer points benefits are no longer applicable. So it is by design in other words - this was communicated as part of the original comms we received back in July of this year - with subsequent clarifications that we received via our Q&A responses that we received back from Wyndham in August timeframe.
My approach based upon the current rules is to use my resale points for larger points reservations - usually for our family vacations - where I'm not going to leverage any VIP benefits anyways. This way I'm not really hitting up against any of the resale points bucket RT/HK limits where I'd have to pay out of pocket.
