My wife and I just purchased our first timeshare in July (HGVC L.V. Strip) and I just found this site yesterday as I was poking around trying to do some research on the HGVC resorts in Orlando. I thought this would be a good first post, as others might find what I learned yesterday from HGVC to be helpful.
When we purchased in July HGVC threw in an incentive of four round trip flights to anywhere in the continental U.S. They said the flights would be given in the form of bonus points (11,360), which we would have two years to use.
I called HGVC yesterday to rescue our 2008 club points, and I asked about the bonus points. I was informed that as of the end of the year, bonus points can no longer be used to purchase airline tickets. The customer service rep said they just found this out on Friday (12/5), but that members will not be notified of this change unless they call and inquire about it like I did. Thus, if you have these bonus points that you intend to use for airline tickets, you must do so before 12/31. You will then receive certificates that you have a year to use.
My wife and I considered converting them to HHonors points, but after evaluating the conversion rates, etc. we thought we would get more value by using them for the flights. So we will use them for a trip to Orlando next November.
Anyway, I thought others might benefit from this information. I look forward to our new TUG membership. I've spent very little time on the site so far, but it seems full of helpful information.
