Yes, you can use it as soon as deposited. The deposit is good for one year before the reservation date to two years after.

Assuming you don't own a fixed week, you still need to reserve the week with Marriott before you deposit it.

I'm a bit confused here, if you can't reserve a Marriott week prior to 12 or 13 months in advance ...how is it possible to deposit a 2010 week. I know it is not an II restriction, but with Marriotts resv rule how can this be done. I'm still learning the II system, so any pointers will be appreciated.

I know I can do it with my RCI resorts because my Sunset Bay weeks are fixed (and I pay 1/2 maint up front) and the Buganvilias selects a week and I pay that weeks maint in full prior to depositing into RCI.

Not exactly. You can deposit your 2010 week and request an exchange for 2009. Whether you will get the 2009 week you want depends on the trading strength of your 2010 week, whether someone else deposits the 2009 week that you want and whether that 2009 week is still available (or another one becomes available) when you deposit your week.

this is what i am thinking, please correct me if i'm wrong.
this summer July2008, i deposited my 2009 week and requested Spain for 2009. I have until 2010 to get my Spain request.
if i haven't received my request for spain 2009, i will leave it pending for 2010 but will deposit my 2010 week in June of 2009 in which i could put in for another place such as the caribbean, arizona, california etc. to use in summer of 2009.

You have until 2011 to use an exchange for your 2009 week. For example, if your 2009 deposit is for week 26, you can exchange for a week that you would use any time through week 26 of 2011. If you don't get your 2009 Spain exchange, you would have to expand your exchange request. The request won't automatically roll over to 2010.

Yes, as others have stated, you could deposit your 2010 week and request a 2009 week. However, as I tried to state above, your chances of getting the perfect exchange with that request are not the best, because you would be requesting an exchange less than a year in advance. Many deposits of the weeks you will want are deposited by their owners a year in advance and then taken immediately as exchanges. The most popular summer 2009 weeks will lkely be mostly gone (as exchanges) by the time you make your exchange request with your 2010 week.

Also, I don't think there is any advantage to requesting a 2009 exchange with your 2010 deposit compared to simply expanding your ongoing search with your 2009 week to include those other places for 2009 once it appears you might not get your desired 2009 Spain exchange.
