Can Anyone Recommend a Good Mascara?

I'm looking for something that won't run down my face if my eyes get wet, doesn't leave clumps on my lashes, makes my eyes look nice, and is easy to remove when I wash my face. I don't use a lot of makeup, but I would like to find something that would make my lashes look longer and thicker without giving me a really made up look. Not into using eyeliner or anything of that nature...just foundation, a little blush and lipstick. Thought a nice mascara might make my dark brown eyes look prettier and brighten up my face, but I can't find one I like. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Can't stand asking the women who work at cosmetic counters, because they are usually so made up that I feel uncomfortable talking to them.

And I apologize to any gentlemen who find this a silly and/or stupid question, but I hope I'm right in thinking that this forum is for anything unrelated to timesharing and a good place to get advice.

Thanks,
Betty

I also agree that for mascara, the store bought brands (I use L'Oreal) are the same as the department store brands.

However, waterproof mascara won't come off too well with just soap and water...you need to buy those little make-up pads (Almay makes them...you can get them in the pharmacy) to really get it off.

Maybeline is the best! The waterproof should do the trick. It doesn't clump, smear, and it looks great. I use the one you can wash off with water and it comes off easily. But for swimming - waterproof works!

My all time favorite is Lancome's Definicils but I don't like it in the waterproof.

I like the Almay brannd's "thickening" one that comes in a white "fatter" tube. I refer it to Almay's lengthening one that is in the thinner white tube. I like to use their dark brown color...add some definition without being looking too dark and artificial. It is waterproof, so best to use one of the special removers to take it off. I like Neutrogenia's face wash in the blue pump bottle; it's good for washing my whole face and removes the mascara at the same time.

Count me as another happy Maybelline user . I love their Volum' Express Waterproof Mascara. It stays on, yet easy to take off. Of course, I use vaseline to take off my mascara anyway.

I like the classic Mabelline mascara too - I have brown eyes and I use blackish-brown. However, I don't like the waterproof - it is too hard to get off. I like to be able to wash it off in the shower without having to use a make-up remover. You might want to try a soft brown pencil eyeliner - it's very easy to use, natural looking, and does a lot to highlight your eyes. I use an eyelash curler too, before mascara. If you have short or straight eyelashes, it really makes a difference.

I agree on the eyelash curler...makes a big difference in how the eyes look and I think it makes the mascara easier to apply.

I find getting my eyelashes tinted (at a salon) is the best way to get a "natural" look and avoid the hassle of applying/removing mascara and ending up with panda eyes when I swim/surf/snorkel.

During summer, in particular, the tips of my eyelashes tend to "fade" a little in the sun, so the tinting gives the lashes the appearance of extra length and thickness.

Maybelline doesn't work for me although it's the favorite of most, including makeup pros. I really think the brush is just as important (or maybe more-so) as the formula and their's seem to be more wide-bristle.

I use Loreal Lash Out which has a fluffy brush. It also comes in a waterproof version that I like, although it's not 100% waterproof. If you rub your eyes when wet, it will smear. It also comes off easily but I usually remove all mascara with baby oil on a washrag in the shower.

I feel naked without mascara, it's the one cosmetic I would want on a desert island (aside from sunscreen!) :)

Unlike most other cosmetics, I've never found a department store brand (and more expensive) mascara that I liked as well as those found in drug stores. Same with nail polish -- I don't find that more expensive is better.

I happened to order the Avon Waterproof mascara...love it better than I've tried. It doesn't clump, stays on when swimming but washes off easily with soap and water. They always have great prices because of their specials.

A friend of mine told me about Kissme (I'm not sure I'm spelling it right) which is what a lot of the movie stars wear because it absolutely will not come off in water, it does not clump or smear even if you rub your eyes. My friend actually showed me that to take it off you have to use warm water and soap and then it falls off from your eyelashes in little tubes. It was really bizarre seeing it fall off her eyes. She bought it I believe for like $22 a bottle but I could not find that brand.

I went to Ulta Salon and Cosmetics and asked about it and they had a similar mascara made by Too Faced called Lash Injection which the girl working there said she actually liked better than the Kissme brand. I bought a bottle
($19.50) and it is truly the best mascara I've ever had. I have sensitive eyes and this mascara just doesn't bother me at all and I really like that it doesn't come off until I want it to come off. It will be great on vacation since it does not run or come off at all in just water. Highly recommend it.

I really like Revlon Lash Fantasy. It has a white end for primer (which you can skip if you are in a hurry) and a traditional dark side. I use the purple Almay pads after I wash my face to get any smudges.

My new favorite is one I found by accident a few months ago and absolutely love. It was also named as one of the best in a major magazine this month. I can vouch for it if you want thick, long, lush lashes....Max Factor Volume Couture...almost as good as fake eyelashes. My other fave is Prescriptves' Plush line. Also very good.

Kiss me mascara

I see the Kiss Me mascara online at Sephora, is that the one referenced in an earlier post? It is made by a company called Blinc (???). I always have mascara that eventually makes it to the skin under my eyes. If it really stays on, I would go to Sephora probably and get it for my next timeshare trip to the Bahamas on October 5th...

I believe it is sold at Sephora. I can't remember why the salesgirl at Ulta where I bought the similar "Too Faced" mascara told me she liked the Too Faced one better but I really, really like my Too Faced mascara which does not smudge, does not smear and will only come off if you use warm water and soap. Then it falls off in little tubes from your eyes.

My friend who uses Kiss Me brand said it was gentler on your lashes to have it come off this way because then you don't have to rub it off with makeup remover which will often times take off your own lashes with it.

I just bought the Maybelline one with the 2-step process - I had the permanent eyelliner done and they told me I had to buy a new mascara to use so I decided to try that one - I didn't intend to get the 2-step process as the whold idea was to save time putting on makeup, but after using it, I find that it looks good, doesn't smudge - I can even sleep in it if I need to - and it comes off with soap and water. I may try one of the others that's been recommended here next time, but just posted this to say I think this one is pretty good also.

I bought the Two Faced brand

Ok, I went to my local Ulta store here in Woodstock and asked about the Two Faced mascara. The salesgirl there said it was her favorite one. She took me right to it. It cost me $19.50 plus tax. I will try it tomorrow!!
