My wife and I are heading to California in early/mid Oct. We're trying to decide on Palm Springs or coastal. Any recommendations on which is better? What about activities? What about weather? We're both quite active and we're not big loungers so hopefully that helps with the ideas?

Thanks..

San Francisco often has it's best weather in October, and the summer crowds are gone. It is easy to make day trips north, to the wine country, or south, to Monterey/Carmel. LOTS to do, see, drink, and eat! Things to do in SF

We are traveling this October to Palm Desert, staying at the Marriott Shadow Ridge. Two years ago we did a trip in October to Newport Beach, and most of the days were cloudy/foggy with the coastal marine layer. Guess it all depends on luck! :(

I vote with Denise on this one. October is an awesome month in the Bay area. Be outdoors all day, have access to great restaurants at night. There is usually no fog in October and the temps are the best of the year.

Take a drive up 395 on the back side of the Sierras....lots of beautiful scenery and interesting old towns......

Much depends on your interests....if you like desert, you're in the right place :)

Beach!

Sept and Oct are usually the best season for the beach areas.

My vote would be for Carmel/Pacific Grove area.

You can't go wrong with any of these choices.

SoCal is great in Oct (best time to visit the mouse!)

Palm Springs is great in Oct (not hot or cold). And few of the snow birds.

San Fran is great in Oct.

See where you can get in and enjoy your trip.

If you are golfers be careful of Palm Springs in October. Many courses are closed for reseeding.

All of the above

We live in California between San Francisco and Monterey and have stayed in Bed and Breakfast places in Pacific Grove (next to Monterey) and right at the ocean several times and always had great weather. The entire bay area is usually pretty good at that time of year but Pacific Grove at the ocean is great then. I'm not big on San Francisco because I've been there a few hundred times so I'm picky.

Which Resorts to Stay at then?

There seems to be availability in Palm Springs around that time. I think the Welk resorts would be the place to stay. What about the Monteray area? We're RCI and SFX members and have not trouble using any of the other independents like TPI or DAE (doesn't look like DAE has much for availability in that area).
